Hugo the Happy Starfish: The Secret to Happiness

I had an opportunity to review a children's book called Hugo the Happy Starfish by Suzy Liebermann to share with you guys. It is an Award-Winning Finalist in the Children's Mind/Body/Spirit category of The USA “Best Books 2012″ Awards, sponsored by USA Book News, and I can totally see why. This book is adorable.

The book teaches kids about finding happiness within themselves.

I know we've all said once or twice in our lives (at least!) "if only I could... I'd be happy". This book touches on that sentiment. The story definitely is sweet and children of any age can relate to it.

Hugo decides he is sad, and so Hugo goes on a journey throughout the ocean, running into friends along the way telling them about his journey to finding his happy:

Throughout his journey, he spent time with friends, found treasures to be able to buy anything he wanted, finally realizing that he could not buy happiness. His sweet friend gave him advice we all should follow: share with others.

He began sharing and helping others in need, and only then he realized that THIS was what made him happy! The book teaches that giving without expectation of receiving anything in return and to always help those who need it. This is what true friendship is about and that will lead to happiness.

This book, and the other Hugo Starfish books are available through Amazon as well as Hugo's Books on MyStarfish! These will definitely be on my "must collect" and birthday/holiday gift lists, for sure.

Check out some of the adorable images from the book on the YouTube clip:
