Bye-Bye to Google Reader, Farewell to Google Friend Connect

Hey The Nurse Mommy Fans!

We wanted to let you know about some changes that are coming up soon and wanted to let you know what we are doing in preparation of these changes.

Google has decided to deactivate Google Friend Connect and Google Reader in July. My best guess is they're trying to make Google+ take the place of these. However, as with any new platform, Google+ is kind of difficult to navigate. Personally, I much prefer to read all my RSS feeds in one place- instead of the confusing newspaper feed like format.

There are other RSS readers out there, but it's hard to transfer ALL the blogs you already follow is another platform that makes finding your blogs easy to follow and even easier to read. It's called BlogLovin'.

Follow on Bloglovin

You can import all the blogs you follow on Google over to BlogLovin. It's super easy. I had over 600+ blogs I was following in Google Reader and it only took about 10 minutes for the transfer to complete. Here's a tutorial on how to move your reads from Google Reader to BlogLovin'.

New to Blog Readers?
Basically a blog reader is a centralized website that allows you to get all your favorite blogs posts in one place, for free. With BlogLovin' you can sign up for daily email updates, too, which I personally LOVE. It's super convenient when you read tons of blogs (or is that just me!?).
The beauty of a reader is that you can scroll through many blogs in just a few minutes, finding the information you want to read quickly.

So, to make sure you still are able to follow us and keep up with all of The Nurse Mommy reviews, giveaways and posts, please follow us on BlogLovin!!

  1. thanks so much for the informative post - several blogs have requested follows on Bloglovin which I have done. Never realized there was a mass import app. thanks! Currently working on shifting my 569 blogs over. There will be some doubling up, but I'll deal with that.

    1. I think it adjusts for doubling up. I don't have any doubles and I have some that I followed on BL before I transferred everything from Google Reader! :)

  2. I've found The Old Reader blog reader and it's more like Google Reader than Bloglovin or Feedly. The background colors are much easier on the eyes, and most of the familiar features are there. It appears to be a little harder to start up, but my librarian daughter sent me step by step instructions and they worked great. I did discover that The Old Reader doesn't like Chrome, so I'm now using Firefox, which is much faster than I remember it being, and its working great for my needs.

    1. That's awesome you've found another reader that you love as much as the Google reader.
I personally am quite sad of Google Reader's departure!

  3. Since Google announced the changes, I started using BlogLovin' and haven't looked back since! I feel it's easy to maneuver and I can find all my blogs easily.

  4. I am still surprised with Google's decision to do away with what seemed like popular products, but agree with Tiffany. I thought nothing could beat G-Reader... then I saw a comment about using BlogLovin' and it's so much simpler. I also like their mobile phone app.
