Pirate Talk Board Game Grammar Gumballs Board Game- Discount Code and Win $50 to Super Duper Publications!

We love education items and board games here. So of course, when I was contacted to review two educational board games, I jumped at the chance. My little man is in first grade and games that help with his receptive and expressive language skills are top of our list.

The first game we received is Pirate Talk.

Your students are about to embark on a swashbuckling adventure as they sail the high seas with Pirate Talk, the receptive and expressive language skills game! As students respond to each prompt, they move from island to island on the colorful game board and collect gold coins. The prompts reinforce seven essential communication skills: Sentence Repetition, Answering Questions, Following Directions, Categorizing, Inferencing, Describing, and Social Skills.

Even though we are not in a classroom setting, I never miss an opportunity to teach my little man. Especially because his progress report just came back showing that language arts is a weak point of his. He had a score of 100 in math and science but an 87 in language arts. Even though that is a GOOD grade, it obviously is not his strong point.

Out of the two games we recieved from Super Duper Publication for review, Pirate Talk is his favorite. The electronic spinner is SOOO FUN! Honestly, I have never seen one so this had my attention too! This game builds receptive and expressive skills in a FUN and rewarding way. The categories are areas that interest my son such as school, community, home, people and activities. The cards are very bright and colorful. The game is really easy to play, and the instructions are very clear cut. Basically you ask the child questions about the photo they are seeing and correct answers allow you to move forward and collect pirate "booty."

We also received Grammar Gumballs:
Grammar Gumballs is a sweet game for teaching and reinforcing basic grammar skills in young children. It targets nine of the early morphemes and grammatical structures identified by Roger Brown (1973). Children with language and learning difficulties often leave these structures out of their speech. Grammar Gumballs includes five levels of difficulty for each illustration. You begin with a simple listening/imitation task and gradually progress to spontaneous production.Grammar Gumballs includes 180 illustrated cards (20 for each area) to teach nine grammatical forms:
Present Progressive VerbsIrregular Past Tense VerbsSubjective Pronouns
Copula Verbs (Is/Are)Regular PluralsPossessive Nouns
Regular Past Tense VerbsIrregular PluralsPossessive Pronouns
My son is already past the simple listening skills that this game starts off with and is actually somewhere in the middle with his grammatical skills since this game is geared towards children prek-grade 3. He thought the entire concept of gumballs was fun, and he spent quite a while "setting" them up. My little man has a very active imagination, so he had all kinds of scenarios going with that gumball pit. It comes with a really user friendly teachers manual which makes this game easy to use, educational but still very fun for the kids. Children love the brightly colored, cartoon like cards, and teachers will love the format, complete with book!

Both of these games are so much fun, and other educational games we received from Super Duper Publications have taught my little man a lot and allowed us to have a great time as a family. After we are done using these games and playing, I plan to donate them to my sons first grade class. I can see where it would really come in handy in his classroom, especially with his classmates where English is not their first language.
