Comfy Joey Ring Slings

Comfy Joey Ring Sling Review and Giveaway
Hosted By: The Nurse Mommy and Ramblings of Mama

Baby wearing is one of my most favorite things. I started wearing Nugget within a hours of her birth- with skin to skin inside my nightgown, then skin to skin in our stretchy wrap once we got home. Our babywearing journey has definitely evolved as she's gotten older. With a very active toddler, babywearing is a major life saver when it comes to outings, especially since we're in the "I'm going to run away from you as fast as I can" phase. Sigh. Also, now that Nugget is larger, nursing while we're out running errands or shopping is so much easier when babywearing, because carrying a toddler to nurse is much more difficult than carrying a little baby. Nursing a toddler is like baby gymnastics while on the breast, also known as gymnurstics. Trying to carry while walking with a nursing toddler? Almost impossible. If you've got tips, PLEASE let me know! LOL!

Comfy Joey makes easy to use ring sling carriers here in the US with only the best material. Here are a few of perks of using Comfy Joey:
  • Can be used from birth to 35 pounds
  • Babywearing is great to soothe fussy or colicky babies
  • Gives you a hands free way to hold baby
  • Folds up compactly to fit in diaper bags AND purses
  • Easy to nurse in while on the go

I selected a House on the Prairie grey linen with pink accent ring sling to try out, which is a gorgeous Grey and Light Pink linen fabric that's super breathable for our hellish lovely Indian Summer weather here in Arizona (our temps are still above the 90's regularly).

One thing I was really excited about with the House on the Prairie is that a portion of the proceeds are sent to the Everyday Miracles corporation. The Everyday Miracles corporation helps to provide education, support and funding for babywearing to increase the ability of mothers of children with Plagiocephaly so they're able to wear their babies in carriers and decrease the time spent on their backs. Plagiocephaly is caused by parents placing their children being placed on their backs, in their baby carriers, swings, baby bouncers, for too long of a duration, and not getting enough enough belly time. I selected this sling because I love the colors, but then once I saw the cause that profits were being sent to, I LOVED it just that much more!

The first thing I noticed when I received my Comfy Joey was the quality of the linen fabric, it's smooth and soft, while sturdy. I loved the great soft grey coloring and the pale pink gorgeousness.

The first time I used my Comfy Joey ring sling, it took a few minutes to get the right fit, but it's most likely because I selected a toddler size for my little teeny Nugget. The first couple times trying it out, I suggest putting your baby/toddler in the sling over a bed or a sofa until you feel more secure with the positioning and placement in the sling.

Number one most important rule of slings: Head must be UPRIGHT (no back-lying or side-lying newborns AT ALL for risk of suffocation), and their head must be close enough to kiss!

These two photos below are from the Comfy Joey site. I wanted to share because THESE are precisely how a newborn should be held in a ring sling (or any carrier).

I put my daughter in it right away. It took me a few minutes to get the perfect fit but that is normal for the first time you use a ring sling, but as soon as you find the right position and fit you are golden and ready to go.
The first couple times, an extra set of hands helps when making adjustments and getting the perfect fit. The first couple times trying it out, I suggest putting your baby/toddler in the sling over a bed or a sofa until you feel more secure with the positioning and placement in the sling.

I decided to try it out while grocery shopping- they aren't lying. This bad boy fits right in my purse with room to spare. It says in the points above that you can use it to nurse on the go, and I can fully agree with this statement. Of course I was grocery shopping late in the afternoon, so I nursed in my Comfy Joey ring sling at the grocery store and I don't think anybody even knew what we were doing.

Comfy Joey has agreed to give one lucky winner $50 gift certificate to use for their own Comfy Joey ring sling. If you don't win, don't worry! Their ring slings are so reasonably priced, you should totally get yourself one (or two) for your baby carrier stash!
