Opioid Depency: The Real and Scary Truth Part 2 #mc

Opioid Dependency is so scary! There have been many lives lost to it, and there will continue to be as long as they are readily available. Though it seems that this problem has origins in my lovely state of Florida, I have seen documentaries that the phenomena is spreading throughout the country! Many lives of people both young and old have been lost to this disease!



I call this a disease because it is!! Opioid dependence is a pathological craving for drugs that destroy lives, and ruins relationships! I have seen this dependency take mothers from children and children from mothers! Families deserve more than this, and there should be more regulations to control the use of these drugs. Unfortunately, as long as there are "drug mills" in existence, there is little that can be done. Drug Mills pose as traditional pain management doctors, but they simply take your cash money and hand over the drugs. They give traditional pain management doctors a bad name!

In my professional role I have seen people prescribed hard narcotics for headaches on a regular basis, and this is in hospitals! I realize that sometimes it is hard to distinguish those truly in pain from those who are addicted, but narcotics for headaches just seems extreme to me! Those situations are the ones that need to be stopped to put and end to this epidemic. Between 1999-2009 there have been more than 300,000 people die from prescription drug overdoses! While I believe in medicating those that are truly in pain, I do think there needs to be drug testing to make sure that those prescribed the narcotics are truly taking them! There are way to many pills going onto the street and being sold at $30+ a pop!


As I mentioned in my previous post, I have had dealings with prescription drug abuse on a personal level and a professional level. I have had family members and friends overdose and die, and have watched others fade away to a shell of who they once were. I also see this professionally and watch the seekers, and the families- often with small children! I have seen the shame and sadness on a little girls face because her dad was addicted and she had nowhere to turn! Please, please if you think you have a problem or feel like you cannot make it without your prescription narcotics, talk to someone. It could already be effecting your loved ones, or your health!! Please seek help!!

Turntohelp.com is an online resource that allows people to anonymously research opioid dependence, find help and treatment options. This site even lists doctors in your area that can help you! It really is a huge resource for those seeking help!
