Helloflo

I know this is a topic that most of us parent dread. The period talk with our little girls. So I will warn you ahead of time so you can stop reading if you’re not ready.

I am a mom to an almost 11 year old (on the 20th of Jan). I know that she’s about to get her period like any day now, and yes that terrifies me. We have had the talk but I’m not really sure she’s ready. While I was preparing for what to get her for that time, I came across Helloflo. They specialize in subscription boxes for when you have your period. What caught my eye is their period starter kit. I really wanted to know more and was very excited when they agreed to send me a kit to review.
Did your mom or sibling sit you down and give you the talk? Or did you just have to learn everything from school or friends? I had the combination of both, which is also awkward.

I know what you are thinking or probably thinking “why do I need a starter kit for my daughter?” well, you don’t HAVE to have one, but after receiving it, you probably want one. The kit has pretty much everything she needs for her first period. Not only does it have pads but it also as a “get ready guide for girls” and one for the parents too. The guides are really nice. They are simple and cut to the chase. They ask simple questions and answer them. It really puts you at ease if you don’t know what to say or how to start the talk with your daughter. In the kit is also a little canvas bag so she can take what she needs on the go, like in a back pack in case it comes when she’s not at home. Inside the pouch helloflo has included a few little goodies including a do it yourself Feby bracelet kit. I love that it not only had a little piece of candy but also some nail polish and other items to make a girl feel like a girl.
I went over everything with my daughter. At first she seemed a little sheepish but once we were halfway through the kit she was getting more and more comfortable with everything and ended up thinking the kit was pretty cool.

If you are not interested in the period starter kit but would like a subscription box, helloflo does have that as well. You pay a monthly fee (that you can cancel at any time) and they will send you the products you need for your time of the month every month with a little goody as well. Check it out today.

Overall I really think this is a great idea for young girls who have yet to get their period. When I told my husband about it his reply was “oh so I just need to hand her this box if she gets her period and you’re not home? Sigh, good thing I’m here for these things. I’m sure lots of men have the same response. I’m also glad Helloflo is around to help ease the awkward conversation.

  1. I love this idea, aunt flo sucks in general but if we can give young girls more positive experiences with it, I am in total agreeance :)

  2. This idea is great. If a girl is prepared with everything that she needs she will be more confident when it does happen. Love this.

  3. My daughter is also about to turn 11 and I'm waiting for her first period any day now. We aren't overly thrilled about it but maybe something like this can help a little.

  5. I love this either as a one time starter box or a sub box. It's especially great for teens who are easily embarrassed by this sort of thing since as a sub the stuff will come every month and so it will always be there..... Love that they included little extras too. As a one time box, the starter box is great for preparing every young girl and like the DIY bracelet that comes with it. It's helpful for young girls and stylish at the same time. This would be great for my step daughter, thanks for the chance to win.

  6. I love the idea of both the regular sub box and the starter box. It's awesome that it combines the necessary goods with some awesome treats as well. Everyone could use a little pampering during the TOM and this seems like a good way to treat yourself (or someone else).

  9. Danielle F - What a great idea! The subscription boxes are wonderful to avoid such scarring situations like unknowingly getting in line behind your male teacher at the grocery store while checking out with only pads. #willneverforgetit. JavCAToNEAtHotMAILdotCOM

  11. I like the starter box. Great conversation starter along with the feby bracelet (although that is an ideal cycle).

  12. This is a wonderful idea so that young woman know exactly what to expect and how to be prepared - that will take away most of the fear.
