Jamaroos, Musical ABC's App: Review

Jamaroos Musical ABCs

I'm always on the search for good apps for my boys. We are tablet people, so naturally our kids want to play on ours and I feel better if at least a good portion of of their apps are educational. I have a few apps I especially like that reinforce stuff we are learning. I homeschool so there are times when I need one child or the other to work independently while I work one on one with the other. This is where the apps usually come in, not to mention car trips or doctor's waiting rooms and restaurants.

Little D is at that age where he is hungry to learn, and I am happy to give him heaping portions of information. My little guy knew his shapes before he was 18 months so when I seen how easily he picked this up, I naturally progressed to colors, numbers and alphabet. Jamaroos Musical ABCs combines music and animals with learning. All things little D enjoys. The animals are fun, colorful and friendly. And the instruments aren't just your run of the mill guitar and piano. So, he gets to learn about music too.
And don't worry, if you don't quite know what a Esraj is, they have a glossary of instruments!

One thing I really enjoyed about this app is that it not only displays the letters and things that start with that letter, but that it also gives the phonics of each letter. Like "ba ba B". Something the other apps and many of the videos were lacking. And the little ones can top the objects and pop them for more interactive fun.

The app is only $2.99 and available for iOS and Android and I have not have any problems at all with crashing or glitching. I've wasted much more than that on boring, one feature apps (I won't mention any names) that don't hold my kids' interest or frustrates them (and me) with constant crashing or so many in-app purchases that they end up either in iTunes, a browser or worse, not even using the app that doesn't engage and entertain them. And I don't care how many features an app has, if it isn't user friendly for my 19 month old, he isn't going to use it. Thankfully, this is one he pulls up every time. And since he has been using it, he sees letters everywhere. He points them out on store marques, books, even food packaging! So if you are looking for a fun app that just may have your little one learning without even knowing it, this may just be the one you've been looking for. And the kind folks over at Jamaroos is giving one of our readers a free app download!

  1. Thanks for this review, This app looks great. I also homeschool my kids, and any resource that you can get your hands on that allows you to keep the younger ones learning while you focus on tougher subjects with your older children is a Godsend. I will definitely check this one out.
