ABCmouse.com: Review and Giveaway

https://www.abcmouse.com/

I home school our five year old and two year old boys. It's not always easy to get them motivated to work. I try to keep our lessons exciting, entertaining and cloaked in fun. It's easiest for them to learn when they don't know they are actually learning. Little C, my oldest, rebels when it feels too much like work. They are both very smart and learned the basics before they were even two years old so I foolishly thought they would embrace school. They'd be little book worms who hunger for learning. And dying to create science experiments and solar system models. Ha! Nope. Of course they want to make it challenging for Mommy. I guess I'm learning too.

Some days, it takes a while just to get them focused on our school day. For this reason alone, I will recommend ABCmouse to anyone who has little ones. They ask for school to start so they can play on ABCmouse.com (or mouse dot com, as Little D calls it). "Ok, you can play on ABCmouse.com after you get dressed and brush your teeth". muuuahhahahaha mommy bribery and learning combined. Win. Win.
We've all seen the commercials. My kids certainly have. They were begging me to "download" ABCmouse to their iPads. They were totally stoked when I signed up for it.

There is so much to the site that I still haven't found all that awaits. There is no way my boys are getting bored with this anytime soon. So, it's obvious they have lots and lots of learning on there. We expect it, so I won't go into all those details. What impressed me most about ABCmouse is the "games" they offer. With each part of each lesson, the kids earn tickets. *fun* They can get pets; who they also feed, water, bathe. They use tickets to purchase food. *fun and learning* They can purchase more/other pets. *fun and learning* They can use the tickets to purchase costumes and accessories for their avatars. *fun and learning* They can shop for items for their rooms, pets, emoticons....not like the learning apps for the tablet who want actual money for the extras in addition for you've already paid for the app.

Once a child has finished the complete lesson in the selected path, they will receive extra tickets and an item to decorate their room.

As I said, my boys both know the basics already but they need them to be reinforced. I let them "play" on ABCmouse first thing in the beginning of our school days and this both gets them primed for learning, but also lets them have fun so that when I am ready to pull out more hands on lessons, they are ready to go. It has been a wonderful addition to our home school arsenal.

You can have up to three users for one account. You can either follow the predetermined lesson plans or design our own. They also have levels within each "grade". So you can custom design your child's lessons according to their abilities.

Just about everything you see in the classroom, you can click on for a new activity. From feeding the fish and cleaning their tank, to arts and the solar system.
