Office Depot Foundation

There are thousands of kids each year that go to school without everything they need.
Office Depot Foundation asked me to share with you information about their Nation Backpack Program. I couldn’t say no to this organization as it’s a great one and I want to help them spread the word.

The Office Depot Foundation is in it’s 14th year and has given to over 3.3 million children so far. This year alone they are sending 350,000 sackpacks to children around the world to help them succeed in school.

The sackpacks, which have been completely reimagined for 2014, feature seven kid-friendly designs – two for boys, two for girls and three that are unisex.  Each sackpack holds a zippered pouch containing essential school supplies – a pen, a pencil, four crayons, a pencil sharpener, an eraser and a 6-inch ruler.  Please note that the sackpacks do not carry any Office Depot or Office Depot Foundation branding or logos. The only thing that says anything about it is a tag that you tear off. To me this says a lot and that they don’t want attention to go to them, but is more about helping out the children.

I don’t know about others but it’s hard for me to see kids in need and not do something about it. We can take the simplest things for granted. My kids get new school stuff every year and a lot of school stuff, their list that they “need” is very long. Kids that are getting this sackpack aren’t asking for much. All they are asking for is a pen, pencil, 4 crayons and a few other items. 4 crayons that’s it. The minimum size to buy is 24 but I also do more for my kids as they love to color.

In addition, sackpacks were donated through more than 35 Back-to-School Celebration events in key Office Depot markets during the summer, as well as in collaboration with nine national nonprofits serving children in the U.S. and around the world:
  • AARP Experience Corps
  • Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA)
  • National Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Association
  • Feed The Children
  • Food For The Poor
  • Kids In Need Foundation
  • National Foundation for Women Legislators
  • Operation Homefront
  • Samaritan’s Feet International

I think it is awesome of Office Depot is doing this. I received 2 sackpacks to check out and they are awesome. I love the drawstring on the sides and great quality. My 11 year old actually took one for her own. It’s the type that all the kids are wearing so everyone will fit in.
