Cooking With Colavita Review & Giveaway

I am going to start this review off by telling you that I am not usually a fan of Italian food, but my little half Italian sons love it, so I decided to go ahead and sign up to participate in the Colavita Gift basket review, and I am thrilled I did! I made an absolutely delicious meal using many of the items I received. The gift basket I received featured:

  • Colavita Balsamic Vinegar
  • Colavita Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Cirio Crushed Tomato with Basil
  • Colavita Eggplant & Sweet Peppers
  • Colavita Olive Bruschetta
  • Colavita Marinara Sauce
  • Colavita Tomato Basil Sauce
  • Colavita Penne Rigate
  • Dal Raccolto Capellini
  • Dal Raccolto Orchiette
  • Almond Cantuccini

Why Colavita
The Colavita family traces its roots to the small town of Sant’Elia a Pianisi, about twenty miles to the east of Campobasso in the Molise region of Italy. It was there, four generations ago, that Giovanni Colavita founded the family olive oil tradition and Colavita Extra Virgin Olive Oil was born.Situated near the border of Apulia, Italy’s largest olive growing region, Sant’Elia was a fitting birthplace for this true Italian olive oil. Over the years, the Colavita family became masters at the delicate crafts of “tasting” and blending extra virgin oils from different types of olives grown in Apulia and nearby regions. This skill enabled the family to produce 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil with a consistent fine quality – a skill that sets Colavita apart today from the other leading brands in the United States.
I had some smoked sausage in the fridge that needed to be used so I decided to be creative and use that to make a spaghetti type meal. It was deliciously yummy and my hubby said I outdid myself. He was actually thrilled to take leftovers to work the next day and came home raving about it! He is on a low carb diet so his meal was tweaked using the sausage/marinara topping on mixed veggies instead and he loved it!

You might want to recreate this meal yourself so this is what I did I used:
  • 1 package of Smoked Sausage
  • Colavita Marinara Sauce
  • Colavita Eggplant and Sweet Peppers (1/3 of the jar)
  • Colavita Balsamic Vinegar (1 tablespoon)
  • Dal Raccolto Capellini
  • One package of any microwave steamer veggies of choice if making the low carb option.
How I made this:
I browned the sausage and added in the 1/3 jar off Eggplant and Sweet Peppers and the Vinegar. I sauteed all of this together and then added the marinara sauce to the mixture. I let this cook for about 10 minutes together and then served over the cooked capellini (or mixed veggies for low carb.)

I also made garlic bread and added the Olive Bruschetta on top. My goodness, was that amazing!! My boys and I also enjoyed the Almond Cantuccini for an after dinner treat! Overall, I am just thrilled with the amazingness we received that is the Colavita gift basket! I have many more meals to create using all the items I received and I am so excited to do so!
