Please and Carrots subscription box

It’s no secret that I love subscription boxes, especially when they are geared towards my kids. Please and Carrots is a new subscription box for kids 0-3. I had to check it out after they asked me to review one of their boxes.

Please and Carrots is a little different than most subscription boxes. They don’t come monthly but quarterly instead and are packaged according to your child’s age at that time frame. For us we received a box geared for 27-30 month old, which is where my youngest is at.

They also work with ZERO TO THREE is a national, nonprofit organization that provides parents, professionals and policymakers the knowledge and know-how to nurture early development. Having Please and Carrots work with this program is really cool. It makes it more about children development than just playing with a toy or stuffed animal.

We received the following:

I love blocks, you can have endless from with them. Fallon wanted to open them right away. She sat in the living room for at least a half hour just playing by herself, stacking them, knocking them down over and over. It was so cute to watch her. The blocks are made very well and are perfect for her learning number, shapes and letters. When I first looked at the packaging, I started to wonder where i’m going to store them, but Melissa & Doug had already thought of that. There is a bag that comes with so you can store it all in one place.

This game is a basic matching shape game. Even though it is basic, kids are still learning which shape goes where and matching colors. It took a few minutes of playing with it with Fallon for her to understand. Once she realized that all the colors are the same for the shapes, she started having more un. We then started talking about colors, blue, green, yellow etc. Her favorite color seems to be blue. She gets that one really well.

This book is so cute. “The “glum-glum” star of The Pout-Pout Fish appears in his first original board book, which touches on basic emotions. A straightforward rhyme guides the story, as the frowny blue fish interacts with a wormlike creature that pokes out from holes in the seabed. “No need to be worried./ No need to be sad,” Diesen writes as the worm disappears from one hole and pops up in another, leaving the pout-pout fish with tears welling up in his eyes. Hanna’s mixed-media artwork makes each of the fish’s emotions crystal clear as the book moves toward a happy resolution: “What a smile, Mr. Fish!””  Fallon kept saying fish, fish over and over, and when we talked about being sad, she looked at me so worked and would say “k”, which is her way of asking if you are ok.

I’m so glad Melissa & Doug thought of this bear, because I never would have. it’s got pockets with big buttons, and a big start zipper, buckles and laces. It is perfect for helping kids practice. Fallon would keep saying, “I zip it” and then zip. I know she’s over 2 already, but her language is a little behind. For her to be putting 2 and 3 words together is awesome. She knows what she wants to say, just sometimes doesn’t know how to say it.  This is a toy I think all kids her age should have.

In addition to all the toys you get in the box, you also get a card that has activity ideas to do with your kids. The one we got was follow the leader. It gives you ideas of where to go, what to use and such. I like it. We copy stuff all the time but I don’t think we have ever done follow the leader.

I have not seen this before, especially with a subscription box, but Please and Carrots also offers advice in a forum platform setting. It's an exclusive members-only area online that shares additional guidance and insight on childhood development with specific activities, advice & tips from the board of experts. It's somewhere at the crossroads of a parenting forum and a WebMD-like service. Please and Carrots offers something that complements the physical aspect of the service - knowledge, expertise, and guidance via the online section of the platform.

I recommend you checking them out for your kids, or even as a gift for a child you know.

  36. I love that the toys are gender neutral, I try to expose my daughter to all sorts of toys not just the girly stuff they try to push in stores. I also love that it's based on development skills, I always found my self buying toys aimed for older kids at the store because my daughter found the one for her age too easy and dull.

  45. I'm commenting on TMM in relation to the Calvin Klein plus size controversy. I personally find the response to be a bit hysterical. No this woman is not plus sized but neither did the company advertise it as such.. they said she was mid sized and mid sized she is....I'm all for having pride in your body in whatever size but find that there is a recent habit of overreaching in the criticism of this particular campaign
