Paragon Induction Cooktop from FirstBuild

I love technology, I really do. I find it amazing on what starts as an Idea, and how far people can make it go. The saying “if you can dream it, you can achieve it” is beyond true in today’s world. I recently because aware of a company called FirstBuild, and I wanted to share a few things about them and what they are doing to change the world of home appliances.

FirstBuild is a partnership between GE Appliances and Local Motors. Their focus is to change how appliances are designed and manufactured. They want to make it even better than it is now.

Through the help of indiegogo, FirstBuild is taking off, with numbers beyond what they first imagined. “Indiegogo is an open platform dedicated to democratizing the way people raise funds for any project - creative, entrepreneurial or cause-related.”FirstBuild had a goal of raising $50,000 in the first 12 hours alone and is currently over $203,000!

You are probably wondering what kind of product gained that type of interest that fast. Well it’s called a Paragon Induction Cooktop. If you still aren’t sure what it is, don’t worry you are not alone. I wasn’t really sure until I read more on it, and I was really really impressed. To say I want one of these would be an understatement.

The idea behind Paragon was a cooktop that could be controlled through a wireless temperature sensor, and took off from there. You can control the temperatures with in 1 degree so it can be used for precision cooking. A wireless temperature sensor continuously monitors temperature and sends this information to the cooktop, which automatically adjusts the burner's heat output to maintain the set temperature. With control like this you really can do any type of cooking. You can poach eggs, simmer something for a party, deep fry, sear, and Sous Vide (which I just learned right now what that is, and I know my husband would love it since he loves a pink middle).  It’s amazing to me that all you need is a standard outlet, the cooktop and the wireless sensor band, download the app and you are ready to cook. I do want to note that you don’t HAVE to use the app to control the cooktop, but it’s just an added feature (one I would definitely use).

If you are like me and are really impressed with the Paragon and want one, you can be part of the Early Bird II and get in on a great price of $169. If you need to wait a little longer to buy, you can preorder at $219. Once the Paragon hits retail it is expected to be priced around $249, so ordering now will save you money. Since it’s still in the early stages, delivery of your order is expected around December of 2015. I know that seems like a long way off, but not really. We are already into February.

The Paragon is just one of the products FirstBuild is developing. If you have an idea that you think will change the appliance world don’t be scared to try and make it happen. Check out FirstBuild, who knows maybe your idea will be amazing and get created for the whole world to see.

If they keep up the pace they are at, I can only imagine what they will have next for us consumers. Keeping manufacturing small and more intimate they way they are, will actually save us money. I don’t know about you, but saving money is a huge plus, especially when it’s something I will more than likely be purchasing anyway. I know I’ll be keeping a watch on the progress FirstBuild has and what new innovative products they will create, will you? What do you think about the Paragon? Would you buy it for yourself, or as a gift for someone else?

  1. This is intriguing to say the least. I like that you don't need a smart phone to use it!! My only problem would a jumping cat--the only outlet I could use in my kitchen is just about where she jumps up uninvited mist times--I'd be afraid she would get curious and burn herself or jump on it and really hurt herself.

  15. Thanks so much for the kind words Katrina! This is Justin from FirstBuild, and I love that I get to design better products with consumers every day. The comments here alone have given insight as to the importance of portability for camping and how valuable extra cooking capacity can be during the holidays. Please keep the comments coming and we will keep them in mind as we finalize the design.
