Redo Your Kid's Dorm Room with help from At Home Store

Redecorating a room can be costly, imagine when the kids go off to college and you have to do a second room (the dorm room). Most of us cringe at the thought of the kids moving out, going to college and oh yea buying all those supplies. My daughter and I recently went to the store At Home to check it out, and they really do have just about every décor item your kids would need for their new rooms.

I remember years ago visiting my brother in his dorm room and it looked like a glorified closet. It was so small. Of course, this varies by college, but I’m so glad most are much more spacious now and give kids a little more “breathing room”.

I honestly wasn’t sure what the At Home store was going to be like inside, but when I walked in, I was surprised at how big it was, and isles that seemed to go on forever. Mya’s eyes got really big and she made a beeline for the canvas décor section.
Mya’s walls are really bare and she wanted something that would pop, but wouldn’t be something all her friends had either. Personally, I love black and white prints, and on canvas, but my daughter loves color. After looking in all the isles (seriously, there is something for everyone’s taste) she decided on a really awesome bird print. It’s simple, but not at the same time (it’s a good thing I don’t work at an art gallery).

After that, we kind of wandered around for a while, just looking at everything they have. At first, I thought it would be just a lot of décor, but it’s more than that. At Home has dressers, tables, chairs, even mattresses. It is a one stop shop.

They had a great sale on bedding, so My decided that she needed a new bedding set, and it had been awhile so I figured why not, we all need to freshen it up a bit, and that’s what this shopping trip was for. Keeping with her style, she found a set that was simple but had great colors to it.

After more time walking around the store and looking at rugs, chairs and even more wall hangings, metal statue objects, Mya decided on getting a super cute medium size chest and of course a candle (what girl’s room doesn’t have a candle?). The chest is made to look distressed. She loved the message that it said “believe, live, love, smile, give etc.

Like I said above, there is something for everyone’s taste. If you child is off to college, or needs an updated room/dorm room, I recommend finding an At Home store by you and check it out.

  5. I've not been to an At Home store, it sounds wonderful. I have to check out the online site, especially looking for throw pillows at the moment. Just got bedding - wish I knew about this before I did!
