Help Carters Give Children Pajamas and Books

Everywhere Agency engaged me to do this post. I’m participating because I believe every child should have access to pajamas.

Pajamas are the type of clothing we just automatically put on, not thinking about it. Everyone wears pajamas to bed right? I recently learned that this is not the case for millions of children in our country (USA). It's not just because they don’t want to, and choose to wear their clothes, but It’s because they can’t. They don’t have the luxury of having pajamas. I’ll be honest, this surprised me when I saw the word MILLIONS. I’m going to get a little personal here, back in 1988 when I was 4, I left a foster home to go to another. They sent me with a paper bag of clothes. However, when I got to the new home and my mom (she adopted me a few years later) found that not a single outfit fit me. In the year 2016, and living in one of the richest countries, how do we not have children wearing something as simple as pajamas? When I learned that Carter’s (yes the kids clothing company) helps combat this, I was in and wanted to share it with you guys.

I know a lot of us are struggling financially, and if you can’t give it’s ok. I know I understand. If you can, I encourage you to read this post until the end and see what you can do for a few kids.

Carter’s will be accepting donations until the end of the year (12/31/16) at their store locations. This means you can drop off your gently used pajama’s or you can buy brand new ones and donate those. If you wish to give monetary donations, you can do so online. The money will be used to buy books and pajamas. In addition, funds will be used to build reading centers all around the country. This isn’t the first year for Carter’s. It’s actually their 7th year they are doing the Pajama Program.

Tomorrow 11/29 is giving Tuesday. A day where we dig deep and help others as much as we can. Carter’s will match all donations up to 100,000, both in-store and online! Personally, I want to say thank you Carters, for matching everyone, it’s incredible.
Since becoming a mother 13 years ago (if you’re paying attention, I’m sure you can do the math lol), I have made a point to not allow my kids to ever be in that same position that I was in, as long as I could help it.  My youngest is 4, and we have already gone through her clothes and put all her old stuff in a box and will be donating to Carter’s.

Millions of kids have this in common, and therefore it’s so important for us to help them:
  • The need for intimacy and bonding with their parents in a safe and caring environment goes unmet.
  • They arrive at shelters with nothing.
  • They do not have someone to read a nurturing book with them or tuck them in with a warm, cozy pair of pajamas.
  • They experience a 30,000,000-word gap by the age of 3.
  • They have been taken from their homes because those they can’t be taken care of by family.
  • They must sleep in an unfamiliar place, cold and afraid.
  • They do not have a book to read or a warm pair of pajamas to sleep in
  • They are reading at a level several grades behind.

I encourage you to look through your kids stuff and see if they have any holiday pajamas, and if not, then any boy or girl pajamas. I know my kids loved getting holiday specific ones and then of course regular everyday pajamas.
