Portable "Car Seat" for kids from SaferRide 4 Kids

My children are often riding in cars that are not ours. Swapping car seats can be a pain, and more importantly risks not being installed correctly. I was actively look at solutions for my 4 year old that still kept her safe (she’s still too little for just a booster seat). When I saw Safer Ride 4 kids, I was intrigued. They recently sent us their RideSafer 2 for us to try out.

Safer Ride 4 Kids says that “Our solution for kids 3 and older is a convenient and legal alternative to the booster seat and the car seat. It’s great for parents who travel, need to fit 3 across, carpool, have children with special needs and several other situations. The Ride Safer Travel vest properly positions the vehicle’s seat belt on the child, lowers their center of gravity and, in the event of a crash, spreads the crash force across the vest instead of just the width of the seat belt like in a booster.”

The vest comes with everything you need including the tether strap. They also include a nice travel bag for you to store everything in.

I will admit, I was a little overwhelmed at how this was going to work, but I followed the instructions step by step and it wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. Please see the instruction manual that comes with the vest, as there are different ways depending on your car. It’s very detailed depending on the if you need to use the tether strap because of a lap belt, or if you are using the lap and shoulder belt.

Safe Ride has different sizes and models. Here is a good way to see which one you need for your child, based on your needs. Also check your states safety laws HERE.

Like I said above, we received the Ride Safer 2 and it’s perfect for Fallon. She’s on the smaller side of 4 year old’s so this will grow with her for a while. A lot of times in her regular car seats, she complains about the 5-point harness. She didn’t have anything bad to say. I don’t know if it’s because it was new and fun, but I will take a quiet and happy kid anytime I can.

Safety of my children is always on my mind (my husband gets a little annoyed how OCD I am about it). I love that you can put this vest in your child’s backpack and they are good to go if someone else is picking them up (of course, show that person how to install the first time). I also can’t wait to take this with us when we go on our next plane ride trip. I don’t have to worry about finding a car seat, taxi’s etc. This takes so much anxiety off me to have this as a solution.

I highly recommend this safety vest if you have a little one that is above 3 years old. It has made my life a little easier. As a parent, sometimes that makes all the difference. It’s less expensive than most other car seats, and takes up way less room.

  1. THIS LOOKS GREAT!! It's so hard to constantly take out the car seat and put it back in. My back hurts and bending over the back of the car and struggling with the base and seat belt itself is a REAL PAIN!!

  2. This is an absolute "must-have" for parents/grandparents. Such a wonderful idea that is actually usable and makes sense.
