Vacation this weekend...Johnson City, Tn

We are heading out this weekend for vacation. Well, it isn't technically a vacation...we are really researching. We are heading to Johnson City, Tn to see if we like the area. Things this past year have been very hard for us with the toxic drywall, and when you top that with all of the deaths my family has experienced and most significantly, the death of my Daddy...we think it might be a great idea to start over someplace else. I have always LOVED the mountains and the fresh clean air, and Johnson City, Tn has a VA hospital for my husband to tranfer to. I also have a very good "online" friend that lives near there...we met when we were both pregnant, over three years ago and talk on the phone all the time. So, it will be nice to already know someone in the area. We wouldn't be able to move until at least the first of the year, but it is exciting to see our potential home.

Does any of my readers live near there? Any comments you want to share about the area are helpful!

  1. Johnson City is about 2 hours from us. The country is beautiful around here and for being in or very near the Mountains the weather is surprisingly mild.
    Enjoy your scouting!

  4. that seem weird to get the newsletter post just now & see the words johnson city TN, I live in greeneville which is about 45 minute drive to there, and my husband works at the VA in the maintainence dept, he really likes the VA its a friendly hospital with beautiful grounds. My daughter & son in law work at ETSU the university just across from there so they all drive that distance each day.Every little town around johnson city like us & others drives to JC (thats what we call it) to dine out shop in the malls because it has more to offer with those things. But your right the mountains surround us all each town and just a skip & a hop away to be in a enjoy. You'll love it I have no doubt because you can live right in JC our in the outskirts of it in any direction and be in the rural areas, and then so close to the mountains to enjoy like Dolly Wood in the smokie mountains, Gatlinburg (the wedding chapel of TN they call it) then North Carolina boarders us so you have Asheville (Biltmore House & Gardens or Cherrokke the beautiful mountains there with the indians to see. The towns around JC are great to like Elisabethton and Erwin which is the quaint little historic town like us here in Greeneville. I think you'll see you have lots of choices to live in or around JC and love all it has to offer, TN has been our home town since birth , we only left it for naval years served just to come right back to it and stay, its beautiful here. Good Luck to you.

  5. I went to nursing school at ETSU where I also met my husband, who has family from that general area. It's a beautiful place. The town has changed tremendously since I attended college there. It's not a metropolis by any means but there's much more shopping and activities than 10 years ago. It's a short drive to Roan Mountain and Asheville, NC which are 2 of my favorite places. I live near Nashville now and miss the mountains of East TN.
