I recently became interested in coconut oil when a friend told me that she uses the stuff for EVERYTHING. Seriously, everything. She uses it as a moisturizer and to tame her ubber curly hair! Honestly, I thought she was a little loco (love ya Michele!) that she actually put this stuff in her hair, but had to admit it really tamed her frizzies. You can imagine my surprise when I read up on it, and coconut oil has been used for a REALLY long time to help dry, damaged hair. Turns out Michele wasn’t so loco!
On Tropical Traditions they give tips on how to use it for hair. For dry scalps you can massage in into the scalp and allow to sit for 30 minutes before shower time. If you need a deep conditioner (like I do) you have two options. The first is to rub it into your hair prior to shower OR you can use it as an after shower leave in conditioner by applying it to any dry ends (like Michele does) I chose the first option because even though my hair is dry, it can look greasy sometimes…and it worked wonderfully! My hair is so much softer and shinier now and a lot more manageable!
Another thing that I use this product for is a moisturizer for my skin. It has an unbelievable natural scent. Being a Florida girl, having that light scent of coconut on you is a must, and this does not fail! It also leaves my skin softer than most moisturizers I have ever used, and it is a lot more natural which is my book equals a lot BETTER!

Since I have started by using this oil in the bathroom, I will not be cooking with it. However, it is apparently one of the best things you can use to cook. Here is an excerpt from Tropical Traditions:
“How is This Oil Used? Virgin Coconut Oil is a food, and is one of the best cooking oils you can use. It has been a staple cooking oil for thousands of years in tropical climates. As a cooking oil, its chemical structure is kept in tact and therefore is resistant to mutations of fatty acid chains even when used in higher cooking temperatures, unlike most vegetable oils. Research shows that the medium chain fatty acids found in coconut oil boosts the body’s metabolism, raises body temperatures, and helps provide greater energy which can lead to weight loss. For hundreds of tasty recipes from people who use coconut oil, visit FreeCoconutRecipes.com."
So, as you can see, this stuff if excellent for everything, and Tropical Traditions carries the very best coconut oil out there!! It is made by hand and in rural areas of the Philippians, so it is benefiting those areas where the coconuts are grown. Only fair right?
Win It:
Tropical Traditions is offering one lucky reader their very own 32oz jar of coconut oil. All I need you to do is tell me one fact or recipe that you learned from Tropical Traditions site.

It has the highest level of antioxidants than any other coconut oil. I'm in love with coconut oil, it truly is a "super food" - not only do i use it for food and beauty (awesome in the hair overnight), but I also give a tsp to my diabetic dog every day. It's amazing. Thanks for the giveaway!

coconut oil contains medium chain fatty acids. Breast milk is comparable and an adult would need to comsume 3.5 TBSP to get the same amount of nutrients as a nursing infant. Hmm. =)
