Dowling Magnets

I have talked a little about my oldest son and his issues with concentrating and focusing.  Along with ADHD he also has Sensory Processing Disorder, and watching him struggle with both of those is hard.  One thing that has always effected him has been his sleeping schedule.  If the kid takes a nap at preschool then he is up until 11 p.m. or later.  If he doesn't take a nap then he's asleep by 8 p.m. but will wake up around 4 a.m. ready for the day.  It has been a challenge for us to find a medium for him.  We are the parents that groan and mumble when we find out that he has napped at school.  But I always praise him for being able to lie still enough to fall asleep.  One night last week he was up around 10 p.m. wide awake so I broke out one of the review games we had just received in the mail.  Dowling Magnets sent us an awesome game called What Am I?  This was such a fun activity for us to do.

This game is kind of like charades except you build stuff with magnets and the other person has to guess what it is.  It even comes with a little book of ideas and pictures to help.  It also comes with a bag full of different shapes.  I have to say that this is one of the best games for creative play that I have found in a while.  My son LOVED it.  He built all kinds of neat things with it.  And he was able to sit and focus because it engaged his creative side.  I love everything about this game.  It can also be played with alone.  We did not do much of the game part. We mostly just made shapes and looked at the pictures.  My oldest is almost 6 and this held his attention very well.  My youngest is almost 4 and he was not as easy to get to sit and play with it. So it has become an activity for a little one on one time with my oldest.  Which is nice to have an activity just for the two of us.  The book that is included has different levels of difficulty.  It was a lot of fun to see how far we could get before getting stuck on how to build something.

Dowling Magnets has lots of really neat looking products. I love the different games they offer.  Any of their products would be great for home or a classroom.  Check out all of the cool games here.  Also follow them on Facebook to hear updates.
