Once again, I have found an amazing company to help one of my boys! I received a small weighted blanket to review from Handmade Weighted Blankets to try out with my boys. It has been such a hit in this house. I just loving stumbling across great companies with great people behind it. What makes this company even better, is the owner, Lori, is a stay at home Mom. She started making these blankets for her son, who has Down's Syndrome and is sensory seeking. A sensory seeker is a person who seeks out a particular type of sensory input (touch, pressure, sound, movement).
I love to hear personal stories like this. It gives a personal connection to the products. As a fellow special needs parent, I have such respect for a mom who goes the extra mile for her kiddo. I actually get weighted stuff for my oldest son who has sensory issues and Asperger's, but my youngest son has really liked it because it is the perfect size for him! He loves to grab it and snuggle up on his couch and watch Peppa Pig. The blanket is really soft and made very well. I love how it is 2 different patterns. One side is blue with sports on it and the other is green. It is also great to throw in the car for trips. Since it is a smaller size it fits perfect over my boys' laps. Handmade Weighted Blankets has a ton of different fabrics and prints you can choose from.
I love how the weighted blankets help to calm my oldest in the middle of a meltdown. The input of deep pressure mimics the feeling of being hugged and can quickly bring him back down. Deep pressure helps us to calm down. Having a quality weighted blanket is a must for a parent of a child on the spectrum or if your kid has any sensory issues. She makes a variety of sizes for your kiddo of any size. Please check with your child's therapist before starting a sensory program at home. Check out Handmade Weighted Blankets on Facebook!
