Prepare healthier baby foods with Sage Spoonfuls: Simple Recipes, Healthy Meals, Happy Babies

winner: thepoetcalliope@gmail.com

It seems like there is always more you know with baby #2. I have learned so much about health since having my first almost six years ago. I have learned that in order to have a long shelf life, many baby foods are made by heating the fruits and veggies to a high level of heat- which then removes most of the nutrient value. Commercially prepared baby foods are a healthier option, but also much more expensive. This leads most health-conscious moms to become more creative….and with that, comes the need for healthy baby food recipes. Sage Spoonfuls agreed to send me a baby food recipe book for review.

This book is fantastic. Sage Spoonfuls really covers everything you need to know about making, preparing and storing your baby food in your own home. There is a list of signs of allergies to look for, ABCs of good nutrition, plus pages and pages of recipes. This 231-page book offers so many nutrient packed recipes and tips, which I think every mother that is considering making her own baby food needs to read this! This encyclopedia, for lack of a better term, of everything baby food even tells you which food blends work best together- so no more making inedible blends! There is even a section in the book about choking and infant CPR! This book seriously covers it all.

So, after reading this book, I honestly had to start off small, and since my little man is only six months old, I thought it best to start REALLY small with bananas. This is a no cook puree, and you basically just mash it up. However, I was unsure of how long it kept in the fridge or freezer, and Sage Spoonfuls: Simple Recipes, Healthy Meals, Happy Babies really cleared this up for me. I have since moved on to making my own applesauce, which I enjoyed as much as my little guy did!

Sage Spoonfuls really outdid themselves with this book, and I am so happy to have it in my kitchen, so I can consult anytime I have a question about making my own baby food.

  2. The Homemade Lifestyle Package. I made homemade baby food for my daughters and now they are both pregnant. I'd like my granddaughters to experience the same benefits of food prepared with love and concern for their long term health.

  3. My beautiful son is 3.5 months old and I can't wait to try the Roasted Sweet Potato recipe. I also love the helpful tip about the semi-frozen applesauce to help soothe sore gums. I was 4 months pregnant when I decided to prepare my son's baby food using organic veggies and fruit, rather than buy jarred. Adding breastmilk to make a smoother consistency was another helpful tip!
