Old World Gourmet tasty, easy drink mixes

One thing I love when throwing a party is to make a fantastic cocktail that's easy to make, quick to set up, and fun to serve. Old World Gourmet provides just that. Old World Gourmet makes various flavored powdered drink mixes, ranging from Margaritas (my personal favorite), to Mojitos, to Cosmopolitans, and even Mimosas. Their drinks can be mixed with Merlot, Cabernet, Pino Grigio, Chardonnay, Vodka, Rum, Champagne, and Tequila. It all really depends on the vibe you're going for, the type of event, and what you love to drink! Not only that, who doesn't love an adult-beverage in the form of a slushy or sno-cone!

About Old World Gourmet:
Old World Gourmet began as the dream of Deanna Sullivan in 2001. She wanted a mid life career change and a better work life balance, so she struck out on her own. Beginning with the original wine ice frozen wine mix, she has nurtured Old World Gourmet to where it is today. There are now over 50 products in an array of flavors spanning frozen wine, liquor, cake and cracker mixes.

Old World Gourmet offered to send me a few items to try out and I selected the following:  Vinolicious White Wine Assortment with Lemoncello, Margarita and Peach Bellini flavors; Tango Tini Mix, and the Wine-E Frozen Wine Cooler Margarita. What's so fantastic about these mixes is that you're able to use champagne, wine, vodka or tequila, depending on what you're making, what you like, and what you've got on hand.

OWG also provides a suggestion for coordinating snacks to serve for your party right on the package. For example, my Tango-Tini suggests preparing with Chardonnay. They suggest you serve with assorted semi soft cheese selections; Havarti, Colby or muenster, along with fresh strawberries, grapes, and sea salt crackers.

For my review, I decided to try out the Peach Bellini mix.

There are two ways in which you can prepare, depending on how much time you have for preparation, I suppose.

Method 1: Combine with champagne, water and contents of packet. Freeze for 3-4 hours and squish in baggie for perfect slushie consistency. Considering that's something that's pretty fantastic about these drink mixes is that you can prep them in advance by tossing them into the freezer before your company comes over, so you can spend time with friends instead of prepping drinks!

Method 2 (my preferred method): Place 1 cup mix into blender with ice. Blend until desired consistency.
I decided to use my food processor to crush my ice instead of using my blender; because, my blender has a much weaker motor than my food processor and it was buried behind a million things in my cupboard.

I used the pulse option to make sure the heavy pieces of ice settled down before I hit the button again. Usually if you just flip it on, it ends up breaking the ice up and watering it down.

Also, once I finished pulsing up  the ice? The ice became a soft, fluffy texture, similar to a sno-cone or snow. Needless to say, that made me quite excited. Let's be honest, I geeked out because now I can make a homemade slushy or ice and CONTROL what I put in it. WWWHHHEEEEE- No Red Dye #40!

OWG suggests that you can use Sparkling White Wine or a Pinot Grigio in place of champagne for the Peach Bellini Mix.

For coordinated snacks, they recommend cheeses such as colby, swiss or mild cheddar, along with fresh mango and peach slices, sweet cherries, and table crackers.

What about those that don't drink alcohol, are underage, or the party is a baby shower and the guest of honor cannot partake in the drinks??
Well, an easy switcheroo for a non-alcoholic twist on things, you could use sparkling juices, such as this Kristian Regale American Variety Pack multi-pack with peach, apple, pear, and pomegranate-apple flavor; or this Kristian Regale Sparkling Swedish Variety Pack, with Lingonberry-Apple, Swedish Pear, Apple and Black Currant; or this Sonoma Sparkler Natural Blood Orange Sparkling Apple Juice, or even this awesome Guayaki Sparkling Yeba Mate Organic Grapefruit Ginger.

Aren't these fantastic? Another thing that I love about OWG is that many of their drink mixers don't have artificial dyes in them. However, some of them do have "natural flavors", without stating WHAT those natural flavors are. But, overall, my Peach Bellini tasted pretty great! Another thing I love about these? You could toss it in the freezer before work on those particularly hellish days and come home, put up your feet, and enjoy a lovely cocktail!
