Monk's Bar & Grill

We were on a little vacation this past weekend in the Wisconsin Dells. For those who live in Wisconsin know that this is the indoor waterpark hub of the country. While we were there we had the opportunity to eat dinner at Monks Bar & Grill. I had heard really good things about this place so I was very excited to take my family there and eat.

The location we went to is downtown Wisconsin Dells and really easy to find. It definitely has a bar feel to it but not in the way that would be standoffish, it’s inviting. You can tell it’s a Wisconsin place as there are memorabilia all over the place for the Badgers, and TV’s to watch the sports games.
We were seated by the host right away and made us feel very welcome. The waiter didn’t have the attitude of oh just another day at work. You could really tell he likes his job and loves talking to people. On the wall by our booth was a collage of firefighter patches from all over the place. My daughter didn’t really know what they were so it was a great time to tell her about them and teach her. Once we explained it she thought it was really cool.

The menu is simple but almost makes it even harder to choose what to order. We started off with a half order of cheese curds (note if you have never had a deep fried cheese curd you have to. I’m not talking about the pre made frozen ones at the store, I’m talking about a fresh handmade cheese curd) and also a half order of onion petals.  The curds of course were served with ranch and the onion petal was served with a spicy ranch sauce, which was really good. Both appetizers were excellent, we would definitely order those again.

For the main course, both myself and my husband ordered the bacon cheeseburger though he had his medium rare and I had to have mine very well done. For the girls we ordered a kids hamburger meal (with fries) for Fallon and for Mya she wanted Monk’s Grilled Chicken Breast. We also ordered a half order of fries to go with it since none of the sandwiches comes with them. We figured a half would be plenty for the 3 of us to share.

The first thing I noticed when they served the food is that the burgers weren’t on plates. The appetizers and the fries were in paper baskets but the burgers were on white wax parchment paper type. We loved it. I saw it as much easier to clean up. The kid’s meal was served on the same paper but inside a Frisbee that the child can keep.

All of us loved the food. The bacon cheeseburgers were perfect, seasoned just right. The buns weren’t hard, they were nice and soft. Mya really liked her grilled chicken and ate the entire thing and a lot of the fries which she said “these are amazing mom”.

Over all we would have to give Monk’s Bar & Grill 5 stars as it was all around a great experience not just great food. We go to the Dells a few times a year, and this will be a new favorite of ours for sure.  Go here to find their other locations as well as their menu.
