Eco Products

From time to time we eat with paper plates, even at home. I’m guessing we aren’t the only ones. We mainly do it when we don’t want to do dishes. Eco Products asked me recently to try out a few of their items. I am always looking for good quality products, especially when hosting parties.

Eco Products says this “We are not a disposable products company trying to act green. We're a green company who happens to operate in disposables.

Sustainable disposables sound like an oxymoron, but we live in a consumer culture where disposable products are ubiquitous. And they aren't going away anytime soon. We see this as an incredible opportunity to help change the world—and more importantly, each of the local communities we serve—by making sustainable disposable products that shift an industry.

I really do like their mission statement and agree that it’s time to make a difference. After looking at their products I finally chose the cold cups with lids, squaresugarcane plates and some forks.

We had a few people over for a bonfire so using those items was perfect. Usually paper plates are thin and flimsy, and I usually double them up. When I grabbed a sugarcane plate, I could tell that I wouldn’t need 2, that one was plenty. They are made really well and durable. At the same time, the square ones are really nice and look more modern than what I would normally buy. They are made from 100% renewable material. Not only that but they are hot food friendly, cold food friendly and you can even use it in the microwave.

I also received the Green Stripe Cold Cups with lids. If you want you can get them custom printed for an event or your company.  I love the fact that you can get lids for them and use a straw. Having a toddler around the house, lids are essential. They are very durable and I can tell they are very well made. The sizes you can get are from 7oz all the way up to 32oz. They are also made from 100% renewable resources, PLA and plant-based plastic.

We also received a package of forks in my favorite color green. They are nice and heavy duty so they won’t break as you try to eat something (yes, I’ve had that happen in the past).  Eco Product cutlery is “Renewable & Compostable Plantware® Cutlery is the only choice for compostable cutlery with a high-heat tolerance. New formulation offers strength and heat tolerance up to 200° F without relying on unsustainable virgin plastic resources. 100% renewable, BPI certified compostable and ASTM compliant.

I will tell you right up front that the prices are going to be a little higher than in a big box store but paying a little more for a better product is sometimes warranted. For 50 of the forks it comes out to be $6.85.  A pack of 50 12oz cups is $8.09. Lids come in a pack 100 is $10.29, and a 50 pack of the medium square sugar plates is $11.98. Check out ecoproductstore.com and order for your party today.

Like I said, they are a little more than a regular store, but these are better for our environment than the other ones. We have a large party coming up this summer and I am seriously considering ordering more for the party.
