Family fun night with grilling Jacks pizza and games

Up until about a month ago, I had never thought about grilling a pizza. I had heard from a few people that it is amazing and that I HAD to try it. I figured, why not, we love pizza, like we eat it multiple times a week. Anyway I was in contact with Jacks Pizza and they offered to send a few to me to try out on the grill.

My girls and I went over to our friend Anna’s house (she supplied the grill) with some goodies and pizza and made a night of it. I thought, oh this won’t be hard, we will just throw it on and it will be good. Well, that’s when I got a lesson in grilling. You’re probably thinking “how are you 30 and never used a grill, AND live in WI?” The answer to that is simple, I have always had people offer to cook for me on a grill, so I never bothered to get one. I have now come to the realization that I need one, but will wait until next year because well let’s face it, it’s a couple days before July and summer is almost done here in WI.

Anna took over and got the grill going. instructions (on back of pizza) were to get the gas grill to 400 degrees, cook for 9 mins, turn and cook for another 9 mins. I think that the grill was either too hot or we kept it on a little too long because the crust was a little burnt. The topping was still perfect so it wasn’t completely ruined. I will associate it with user error. I’m sure another try or two and we will have it perfect.

It was different and a ton of fun to try one of my favorite foods in a different way. You probably already buy Jacks pizza so why not get a little adventurous right? I recommend that everyone that has a grill to try it or if you don’t have one, to find a friend that does and make it a party.

Also if you don’t have a grill but want one, Jacks is currently giving one away each week for 12 weeks on their facebook page, so go enter now. Ends August 9th, 2014

While you and friends are together, might as well make it a full night of fun. I spoke with Go Camping America and they told me about one of their favorite games. it’s called Hand and Foot and is a card game.

“Hand and Foot is a North American game related to canasta. Each player is dealt two sets of cards using one as the “hand” and one as the “foot." There are numerous variations of the game and no “standard” rules. You can either play as individuals or as teams. The most common version of the game is played with four players in partnerships; it can also be played by six people in two teams of three or by any number of individuals. The following rules are for our “favorite” way to play with four people, two teams of two.”  Go to their site to find full instructions on how to play the game and other great family game ideas.

  2. I just recently heard about grilling pizza myself. It is a very interesting concept and I am going to have to try it. My family loves pizza so it won't be long. We have been playing the hand and foot card game for abut two years now. We find that it is one of the most fun card games ever and can include up to as many people as you want.
