Kevo Bluetooth Electronic Deadbolt

I have worked in a few offices and have always needed a key fob to unlock the doors. I have always thought they were really neat and would love to have one for my house. I contacted GoKeyless and was thrilled when they agreed to send me one of their locks.

GoKeyless sent me their Kevo Bluetooth Electronic Deadbolt. Anyone who really knows me knows I love electronics and technology. I couldn’t wait to test it out, it looked amazing in the description, so I had very high expectations.

As soon as it arrived I opened the box and wanted to get started. I will be honest, when I looked at the instruction book, I was a little intimidated. Luckily I saw that there was an instruction video. Once I watched that, I knew I could install myself, and I was right. It took maybe 10-15 minutes tops to install. I’m sure if someone knows more about locks and putting them in, it would go faster. I tested it and it worked so I was good to go.

Kevo Bluetooth Electronic Deadbolt comes with 2 regular keys (just in case) and 1 key fob. You can always order more key fobs if you want. The fob and the Bluetooth technology are what drew me to this lock. I love that you just need the fob in your pocket, purse etc and tap deadbolt and it unlocks for you. No need for any fussing with your keys, inserting it and all that, especially in the dark when you can’t see well and you forgot to leave the porch light on. If you need more than 1 key fob you can purchase more for $24.99 and sync as many as you need. To use the Bluetooth technology, you need to download the app, which is free on itunes. Once it’s downloaded and you login  you need to go to your lock and activate it. Once you have done that you are ready to use it. With some phone apps you have to have it open and on the screen in order to use it, Kevo doesn’t make you do that. Just like with the key fob, you just tap the deadbolt and it will unlock it.

With the Kevo app you can send someone an e-key to gain access to your house when you are gone by just going into the app. You can send it as a guest, schedule it by time frame or send it so they can always use it. The plus side of sending an ekey is that if you don’t want that person to have access anymore, all you do is disable it. Makes asking for the key back very easy. If you need more than a couple ekeys, you can buy them using the app for only $1.99 each, so very affordable. You can also track when the assigned people use their ekey.

Right now Kevo Mobile App compatible with Apple iPhone 4s, 5, 5c, and 5s only.  Android users will need the key fob to operate lock until Android upgrades a specific feature in Bluetooth 4.0, at which time the Kevo mobile app will be immediately available on Android phones.  Android support is expected to be available at the end of 2014.

A few of the features

  • Multiple levels of military grade encryption to ensure Kevo's security
  • Receive notifications and manage lock and eKeys through the Kevo mobile app, or provided key fob
  • eKeys capacity:  Unlimited
  • Fob capacity:  Unlimited
  • Each eKey is unique and assigned specifically to a Kevo user and Kevo smart lock
  • An eKey can be shared digitally in a few clicks
  • There are no more unknown copies of the keys to your home
  • An eKey cannot be duplicated unlike a physical key
  • You can temporarily disable or completely delete any unwanted users from Kevo
  • eKeys may be re-used

One thing that worried me about having a smart lock was if someone could hack into my home. After looking the system over, I was reassured that they wouldn’t be able to. The lock only works on your phone or others you gave permission to. A regular person walking up to your house would just see a regular deadbolt and wouldn’t know of it’s options unless they know the brand or you tell them. So that is another security feature there.

A quote from the company “We've literally talked to tens of thousands of customers and have seen virtually every door condition and project. When you choose GoKeyless for your keyless locks and access control, you can be assured you've selected a company with the knowledge and expertise to help you navigate the choices. Our sales associates, technical support specialists, and customer service agents undergo extensive training on these products. They can get you the help you deserve.”

If you bought this lock retail it sells for $470, but through GoKeyless you can get it for a reduced rate of $219. Yes, it is more expensive than a regular deadbolt, but in my opinion it is worth the price. If you're like me and making your home more into a “smart home”, you will love this. 9. I find this keylock system quite brilliant! I don't want to deal with a lot of extra keys going away, but something simple like a bluetooth key would seriously save me so many times. And i love the added security feature where you can change who is able to use the kevo instead of having to hunt people down to return keys.
