I remember watching Shark Tank awhile ago and they had a toy on there for girls to use their imagination and just build. So when Romminate asked me to take a look at their studio, I couldn’t help but say yes.
While I was playing with this, I kept thinking how how awesome it is that you can customize it. You don’t have to do exactly like it is on the box. In my opinion, yes it is geared more towards girls, but that doesn’t mean boys can’t play with it either. Just like it girls can play with legos, or boys with dolls. I just really like that girls were thought of when creating this.
When building the studio kits aren’t just snapping things together, they are also learning about engineering with building motors (does require batteries), science, math, and technology. I don’t remember seeing anything like this when I was a kid. Please keep in mind that roominate is for ages 6 and up since it does involve some smaller parts.
There is everything you need in the box except for the 2 AAA batteries. The studio comes with 70 pieces:
- 24 furniture building pieces
- 16 connectors
- 1 motor
- 1 switch
- 1 battery pack
- 1 screwdriver
- 1 doll
- 1 pet
- 20 sheets of craft paper
- Paper cutouts
I could see kids, and probably me, spending hours playing with this. Taking it apart and building something new. Romminate as more than just this studio, they also have a helicopter, chateau, and more. I would check them out today and buy as a Christmas gift. You can buy online or check out the store locator for a retailer near you.

I like that Roominate encourages young ones, especially girls, to cultivate a love for science and creativity that isn't necessarily the type of creative outlet girls are expected to use or express. My oldest has already expressed a desire to become an architect. This would be an awesome toy for her.
