Bear Creek Country Kitchen soups, rice and more

Getting my husband to try new foods isn’t hard, but getting my 12 year old to try something new, now that can be some work. I was recently asked to try a few of Bear Creek Country Kitchen items. I’m always up for something new.

The first thing we tried  was the Creamy Potato. When I told Mya what we were having she first said “I don’t like potato soup.” Well kid, i’m the mom and you will try it. She was the one to apologize and had 2 bowls of it. So I have to say well done Bear Creek.

It has to be one of the easiest soups I have made in a long time. All I had to do was bring 8 cups of water to a boil, add the mix and wait 10 minutes. I was really surprised at how thick it got in only a few minutes. The kitchen smelled so good while it was cooking. At only 160 calories per serving (1 cup), you don’t feel bad if you have a second bowl.

Mya and my husband already asked when we will be having it again, so I know my next trip to the store will include stocking up on a few bags. For under $6 a bag we can definitely buy a few at a time. Next time i’m going to add some shredded cheese to the mix and maybe some green onions on top (just to be a little fancier).

The second mix that we tried was the Southwestern rice. I knew right away my husband would like it since he is a big rice fan. I’m very used to bringing water to a boil and then adding things to it, so it was a little different for me to add everything then bring it to a boil. Doing it this way was easy. Once it started to boil yo turn the heat down, leave the cover on and let it cook for 10 minutes while stirring once in awhile.

While the rice was cooking I decided to make one of the house favorites; chorizo tacos. I thought it would go perfect with the rice. I simply browned up the chorizo with a little lime juice, threw it on a corn tortilla with some cheese and salsa and we were good to go (we were out of cilantro).

Paring the rice with the taco was perfect. Darin even added the rice to his tacos and ate it kind of like a burrito. The bag says it makes 4 cups, but I think it makes more than that, but I didn’t measure it.

Everyone just loved it, even little Fallon who I think ate more than anyone. We had to stop her from eating the rice so she could eat her salad and her taco. Pretty sure she would have only eaten the rice if we let her. I’m guessing we will be stocking up on this as well.

Bear Creek has a ton of other soups, rice and even macaroni options. I bet there is something for just about anyone in your home. You can buy from their site or at a store near you.

  1. I usually get these on sale for $3 or less and our favorite is the Cheddar Broccoli. In order to make it more of a complete meal, I substitute milk for the water and use a double boiler (it helps keep the milk in it from scorching). I also add a one pound bag of chopped broccoli, thawed. Once it's done we top it with some shredded cheddar cheese. I typically have to thin it down a bit to reheat any leftovers. You could also do half milk and half water.

  2. I have had a few of the bear creek soups, but they are expensive in our area. If I saw them on sale I would purchase them more.
