I do just about anything to get my son into reading. It is not something he is very interested in, so I am always getting new books for him to read, and bribing him to read. We just received a new book called Seaside though, that he is much more willing to read than the others! It has all the excitement that an eight year old boy could love, and is a fairly easy read for him. The characters really come to life in the few chapters I read myself, and I can see how easy it was for my son to get attached to Bobby and fall in love with the adventures. This longer chapter book is a hard backed book, so it is made to last and be passed on from child to child! It is definitely one I will be keeping for his younger brother!
Wylde Scott follows up his award winning picture book The Possible Police with a surprising new adventure!
Every
boy in Seaside wants to be one of Blackbeard’s Boys. From the time ten
year-old Robert Grace O’Malley could hold his very first fishing pole,
it was all he thought about. Every captain of every ship for generations
had been one, and he would do anything to prove he belonged. Bobby sets
off to complete a set of challenges put forth by Mario, the cruel
leader of Blackbeard’s boys, who seems intent on keeping him out.
Bobby
dreams of being just like his idol, Antonio Bonicelli, the most feared
and respected captain in the village. Boncelli has faced the worst of
the sea and captured just about every beast imaginable, except for one,
the giant octopus.
Things
in Seaside take on a dramatic turn when Bonicelli finally captures the
giant octopus he has spent a lifetime searching for. Unknown to the
great fisherman, the octopus he has captured is female, and the mother
of a curious young octopus named Walter. When Walter goes in search of
his mother he meets Bobby, and their two paths are forever crossed.
Bobby must choose between helping his new friend and the life he had
already planned out before him.
In
Seaside, Wylde Scott takes you on an exciting voyage through a
fairy-tale fishing village and a pivotal moment in the life of two
unexpected friends. An adventurous story perfect for young readers
graduating into their first novels or parents reading their little ones
to sleep, it’s a book that’s bound to be a staple in every family’s
library for years to come.
