My daughter loves to play outside, and I mean LOVES it. It’s March and she finds it awesome that we can just go outside with our shorts and tshirt and play at the park. We moved from WI to AZ this past summer, so this is our first spring here. It’s definitely something to get used to, and my girls think it’s awesome.
The perks of living in a warmer area is that you can play outside any time of year and don’t have to worry about spending 20 mins putting 5 layers of clothes on first. I know with my older daughter that when she couldn’t go out (usually because it was way too cold), that she would be itching for the day that she could and had way too much energy built up.
We have some play toys in our back yard to play with but she loves to go to the park. The park has the big slides and there are usually a few friends to play with as well there. If she had to pick between our back yard or the playground a few blocks away, she will pick the playground 9 times out of 10. She is always saying “when papa gets home from work, we will go to the park” it’s really cute as she waits all day especially on the days she is off from school.
The Voice of Play is an education and advocacy initiative of the non-profit membership association, IPEMA. They were formed to educate and promote the benefits of children’s free outdoor play and playgrounds. One of the things they do is highlight how kids thrive from playing.
