Ultimate Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese Sandwich

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Sara Lee® Artesano™ Bread.

I grew up in Wisconsin, cheese is one of the things we are known for. So when I was given the opportunity to work with Sara Lee® and their new Artesano™ Bread for #NationalGrilledCheeseMonth there was no way I was saying no.

I’m not even kidding, the saying in our house is “cheese makes the world go round.” Coming up with a grilled cheese sandwich that my family would love is definitely something I can do. Before I get to that, I want to talk about the bread. The insides of the sandwich is very important, but if the bread is off, then the sandwich is nothing.

When it comes to grilled cheese, you need a bread that will toast easily but not dry it out. Sara Lee®  just introduced a new bread to their line up. It’s called Artesano™. I would include this in the more “gourmet” section as it’s about $2.99 a loaf, but is worth every penny. It’s so soft and moist, it’s like it was made at home. It tastes that fresh. Not only that, but it’s good for you as Sara Lee® didn’t use any artificial flavors, colors or high fructose corn syrup.

If you are thinking you are only going to find this in the higher end grocery stores, you are wrong. Walmart is the biggest retailer that is carrying Sara Lee® Artesano™, but you can find it at most other grocery stores as well. The packaging stands out to me as the bag is different than most (in a good way, i love the bag!).

In my house, we can’t have a grilled cheese sandwich without having tomato soup (with a little bit of shredded cheese on top) to dunk the sandwich in. It’s just not the same without.

The key to the perfect grilled cheese is the cheese of course, in my recipe, I have used some of our favorite cheeses, but if you don’t like one of them, then you can simply swap it out for your favorite. So here is my version of the Ultimate Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese Sandwich:

Ingredients:

Sara Lee® Artesano™ Bread
Colby Jack cheese
Pepper Jack cheese
Munster Cheese
Sharp Cheddar Cheese
Pulled Pork or Carnitas (I make my own, or you can buy store bought as well)
Butter (softened to spread)
Can of tomato soup
Milk
Shredded colby/jack (or fav shredded cheese)

Directions:

  • Put your griddle or pan on the stove and set on low/med
  • Small kettle on stove on medium and put one can tomato soup and one can milk, stir and heat up
  • Butter one piece of bread
  • Assemble the sandwich on the other piece-
  • One piece of colby jack cheese at an angle, then the munster at an angle so the whole piece of bread is covered and going over the edges
  • Add a small amount of the pulled pork or carnitas
  • Place the pepper jack and sharp cheddar just like the other cheeses and over the meat
  • Once the pan/griddle is ready place the buttered side down, and flip the assembled part on the non buttered side of the piece on the pan.
  • Butter the top so it’s ready to flip
  • Flip the sandwich when bottom is golden brown and cook until the other is golden brown as well.
  • ***if the cheese on the edges aren’t melted to how you like it, you can put a lid over it for about 30 seconds to steam it***
  • Place on plate, cut
  • Pour soup into a bowl and add a little bit of shredded cheese

We like to dip our sandwiches into the soup as we eat.  Do you dip your sandwich like us, or how do you like to eat yours?

  10. I don't know why I don't think of pulled pork on sandwich bread, but this looks great. The bread has to be pretty sturdy to handle the pork and cheese and this new bread looks like it does.

  33. I LOVE the Artesano bread! Before discovering Artesano, I always ate whole-grain wheat bread. (I still do, but now I crave Artesano bread!) I can't even imagine how awesome a grilled cheese sandwich would be with this bread. And even though I'm a longtime vegetarian, this recipe looks great! I never thought to use pulled pork-- I'm sure some of my friends and family would love it.
