Make Maps Art from Grafomap

I’m always on the lookout for new and unique products, especially ones that I can use as gifts. Recently I received an email regarding a company called Grafomap. Essentially, it took a map of any area and turned it into a poster. I was very intrigued and wanted to check it out more.

I think the first step is the hardest. I say that because I wasn’t sure what city I wanted to choose. Instead of thinking of the city, I thought of the friend I wanted to send it to. Once I thought of that person, I then knew the area. Once you put the city in, it will create the map. From there you can change it and make it your own.

For the title, you can keep the city name, or change it to say anything you want. Same with the subtitle and tagline. Grafomap has those auto filled to have the city, country and the latitude/longitude of the city.

Since I like to have things a little more personal, I changed the subtitle to an inside joke line. Instead of the latitude/longitude of the city, I chose a location that I know the person liked and put that in.

After that, you get to choose the map style. There are four to choose from. There is really no wrong choice, just preference. I liked the second one with the multiple colors. I’m not sure what the styles are called, but you can click on each and it shows you exactly what it will look like. If you don’t want any text and just the map, you can chose that here as well. Personally, I like the text. It adds to the poster.

The final step is choosing the orientation of the poster, ie portrait or landscape, then if you want just paper, or framed (that is extra). Lastly of course if you want traditional size 18x24 or larger of 24x36 (extra cost). Then you order. It really is that simple.

Once I ordered the poster, it took about a week to arrive. I didn’t have mine framed for me, as I wanted to pick the frame. The poster paper is good quality and won’t rip right away (though it is best to frame it, so you can protect it). I ended up choosing a very simple black thin frame so it wouldn’t take away from the poster itself.

Grafomap doesn’t charge shipping, so a poster is only $49. I recommend taking a look and seeing for yourself. You can really put in any location in the world. Just for fun, I put in different cities here in the states and also around the world.
