I struggled with breastfeeding both of my boys. Many people will read this and call me lazy, or say that women across time fed their kids and we are made for this. Well, I will tell you that simply is NOT true. Some women do not, for whatever reason, produce enough milk. In the "old days" there were wet nurses, or goats milk. That is how children were fed when moms simply could not. I struggled with feelings of "being broken." I did not understand why my body "failed me." Many others moms have went through this, or are going through this. I am here to tell you, do not have guilt over this. The MOST IMPORTANT thing to do is, feed you baby! If that means supplementing, or exclusively using formula, then do it! Many exclusive breast feeders try to say that you do not BOND as well with your child when you bottle feed. NOT TRUE! One son I breastfed only 8 days (he was NICU baby and really messed with any production) and one I fed for 2 months. I feel equally bonded with my boys. Do not fall into this thinking. You WILL bond regardless of how you feed you baby. Once I made the decision to switch to formula, I had sticker shock. The prices are amazingly expensive!! So, my next guilt-ridden question was, is store brand formula as good as name brand! In my research, I found that YES it is! All brands have to pass extensive testing and must meet standard requirements. I made the switch and my little man never seemed to notice a difference. He never had any stomach issues and we saved a LOT of money.
