Red Box has your Family friendly Movies

I’m a disabled mom so movies and TV are a huge pastime in my house and with the kids back to school the weekends tend to be movie overload. I wanted to share with you some great options from my friends at Redbox. They helped me with these amazing selection that I wanted to share with you. I will say that Ugly Dolls is a must see. My youngest daughter Fallon is 7 and was glued to the screen watching it. There are so many other great titles on this list including some political comedies for the adults. Check it out and tell me what you think.

Missing Link – In this stopmotion animated film featuring a voice cast that includes Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, Emma Thompson and Zach Galifianakis, we follow an English explorer who finds a Yeti (or Bigfoot … or Sasquatch) and helps him get back to his family in the Himalayas. But on top of their perilous journey, they need to deal with a bounty hunter who’s hot on their trail. You’ll be treated to wonderful animation and a heartwarming story — what more could you ask for? (And make sure you keep it rolling for the end credits scene!)

UglyDolls – This animated tale about a group of defective dolls and stuffed animals from “Uglyville” who try to find acceptance in the real world boasts Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Pitbull, Janelle Monae, Nick Jonas, Bebe Rexha, Charlie XCX and Lizzo in its voice cast, so clearly it’s going to be jampacked with some great tunes on top of a sweet message.

How to Train Your Dragon: TheHidden World – My kids are crazy about the How to Train Your Dragon series (both TV and film), and this final installment of the franchise is absolutely amazing and did not disappoint.

Mary Poppins Returns – Mixing live action (in the form of cast members Emily Blunt, Lin Manuel Miranda, Emily Mortimer, Ben Wishaw and more) with fantastical cartoon sequences just like its 1964 predecessor, this musical is a great pick for those with older children who will understand its slightly more complex themes and not need to be constantly entertained by cutesy characters.

Captain Underpants – … or on the opposite end of the maturity scale, there’s my kids, who love to run around in their undies and shout “I’M CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS…. TRA LALAAAAAAA!!!!” If you have kids like that, this is the movie for you. (And honestly, it’s actually pretty clever cute.)

The Lego Movie 2: The SecondPart – In our house, summer is also the time when my kids remember ALL THE LEGO SETS they’ve accumulated over the years and get excited about rebuilding them again. So this sequel (that’s just as good as the 2014 groundbreaking original) comes highly recommended.
6 POLITICAL MOVIES THAT WILL EARN YOUR VOTE

The last thing many people want to think about when movie watching is politics, but some political comedies are funny enough that watching them still feels like escapism — even if some plot details might eerily reflect real life.
Here are 5 fun ones you'll want to check out.
Long Shot – New to the Box and Redbox on Demand, this one is more of a political romcom. It stars Charlize Theron as a career politician who decides to run for president, and Seth Rogen as an antiestablishment childhood friend she hires to be her speech writer. Clearly it’s an “opposites attract” type of situation, with an overarching theme about staying true to — and standing up for — yourself. I’ll admit I went into this one a bit cynical, but I ended up really, really enjoying it.

The Campaign – Two of the most hilarious comedians alive — Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis — go headtohead as rivals both running for the same Congressional seat in North Carolina. Their escalating tactics to derail each other’s campaign, supported by various shady characters played by Dan Aykroyd, John Lithgow, Dylan McDermott and Jason Sudeikis (on top of countless reallife cameos), make this one a mustsee.

Dave – The sweetest film on this list by far, Dave tells the story of a presidential impersonator (Kevin Kline) who actually ends up taking over the country’s reins when the real president suffers a stroke and falls into a coma. What might happen when a truly good, everyday American goes up against the political machine?

Idiocracy – In this searing 2006 Mike Judge comedy that is starting to hit a little too close to home, Luke Wilson plays an Army librarian who enters into a state of suspended animation alongside the prostitute Rita (Maya Rudolph) as part of an experiment. When they finally wake up in the year 2505, they realize that humanity has gotten progressively dumber over the centuries, to the point where no one knows how to keep plants alive, reality TV rules, and people are named after products.

Wag the Dog – This 1997 black comedy brings Dustin Hoffman and Robert De Niro together as a Hollywood producer and a Washington spin doctor who elaborately make up an entire war in Albania in order to distract the public from a presidential sex scandal.

  1. This is such a great list of movies. I've seen most of the kids movies, but the one I most wanted to see is Mary Poppins returns and I still haven't watched it. I really need to get to Redbox to snag it.

  6. I want to see that Mary Poppins movie. The first one was just so classically camp and I want to see if they captured that in the new movie.

  7. Red box is so convenient. My kids love picking out a movie for movie night. They love the new Mary Poppins movie. Although, I am more partial to the original.
