Giving Tuesday with T-Mobile

Charities and giving back are a big deal for me and I have taught that to my girls as well. Over the past few years around Christmas we have sponsored families and donate to a few different organizations throughout the year. That’s why working with a company like T-Mobile that gives back like they do on Giving Tuesday means so much to me.

This year for our big charity, we picked a local one. I took the kids over to a resort for the weekend where the event was being held. They were having a silent auction with Christmas Trees. All the proceeds from the auction was going to this charity. We wanted to help, so the kids helped, and the resort was kind enough to get us our own tree.
The kid then helped me pick out gifts to put under it. The ones we picked ranged from a kids “coffee” maker, to video games, to an electric skateboard. We even put in 2 ugly Christmas sweaters, one with Yoda and the other with a dinosaur to match Fallon and Canon’s sweaters.

They had a blast decorating the tree and of course the event itself the next day, looking at all the other trees that companies donated. We knew the event was going to be a huge success and thousands would be raised to help this charity.

It’s great seeing my kids involved in things like this. So they know others need help and if we ever needed something, there are organizations out there to help and people want to help. Fallon and her best friend even had their joint 7th birthday party this last summer and didn’t ask for presents. It was all about pet adoption and they asked for food and toys for the animals.

Our kids watch us, and we want to teach them that other’s matter. Giving Tuesday is a great way to start if you haven’t yet. You don’t have to do something huge. Every little bit helps.

Did you know that more than 37 million Americans will be impacted during the holidays and hunger? This means they don’t have enough to eat. Something we at times take for granted.
T-Mobile is really stepping up as they work with Feeding America and want help give up to 5 million meals to people this year by helping with up to 100 employee volunteer events. They named this program #GivingOnUs.

To make this even bigger #TeamMagenta has over 52,000 members across the country. The T-Mobile Foundation will deposit $25 into every employee’s Giving Account, which they can donate to the charity of their choice this holiday season. With that many members, that’s $1.3 million dollars right there of charitable giving. How amazing is that?

Besides the those 5 million meals, T-Mobile worked with Feeding America earlier this year and with their 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency feeding sites around the U.S. They had 10 million meals donated through the Slow Cooker Sunday Cookbook campaign. Overall this year had a potential of up to 15 million meals. “Everyone has a role to play in ending hunger, whether that’s making a donation, volunteering at a local food bank or using your voice on social media to spread the word,” said Andy Wilson, Chief Development Officer of Feeding America. “We can’t end hunger alone. Individuals, businesses, charities and government entities must all join the fight. We’re tremendously grateful for T-Mobile’s commitment in helping to fight hunger and bringing national attention to this critical issue.”

How can we help?

T-Mobile and Feeding America can’t do it alone, they need our help. Everything kicks off on Giving Tuesday December, 3.

For T—Mobile Customers: you have a great option called Save a Deal, Give a Meal. When you save any deal in the T-Mobile Tuesdays app on Giving Tuesday, T-Mobile will donate a meal to Feeding America.

Everyone: Every time anyone tweets the hashtag #GivingOnUs, T-Mobile will contribute 10 meals to Feeding America. In total, via Twitter and the T-Mobile Tuesdays app, T-Mobile will donate up to 5 million meals to Feeding America!

How amazing would it be if we could reach that 5 million mark?
Don’t miss our twitter chat on 12/3 as well from 9pm-10pm EST. Great conversation, and prizes to be won. Use #GivingOnUs to find us.
Do you do anything around the holidays and if so, what? I would love to hear what your giving traditions are.

It is great to learn about T-Mobile's team up with Feeding America. We will try to help in anyway we can to end hunger. Every Christmas Eve, my sons and I prepare a hot meal and go around our area giving the meal packs to homeless people. I know it is only a small gesture but we want to provide some kind of assistance to people in need
