Make it a movie night with Call of the Wild

The kids have been going stir crazy as I’m sure yours have been as well. I have been trying to think outside of the box for activates. I wanted to get the projector out for a movie night, but it’s still a little cold out so and inside movie night it was. At the same time I wanted them to get involved. I mean, I could do all the work, but that wouldn’t be as much fun. So part of homeschool art class was create the signs for movie night. The movie was Call of the Wild. You can get on digital right now from Movies Anywhere and soon from Blu-Ray and DVD.

I’m so glad I did this project with them as they had a blast. Canon made the theater sign and Fallon made the popcorn and snacks and of course set the price of them. Mya even helped out and made the Call of the Wild sign and decided that there would be VIP seating (the hide a bed).

I made a store run earlier in the day and grabbed the box candy, you can get it at almost any store for only $1 each which is a great deal and most grocery stores have a great selection. Popcorn is a must and the kids love margaritas (nonalcoholic of course).

I gave each person a set amount of money, enough to cover a ticket, drink, candy and popcorn or chips (not both). You can use monopoly money or play money.

Once everyone had their snacks and drinks it was time to take our seats and the movie was to begin. Again, the feature of the night was Call of the Wild.

The entire family loved the movie and of course Harrison Ford was amazing in it. Fallon loves dogs, and will watch pretty much any movie that is geared towards her that has a dog In it. She was glued to the screen loving the entire movie. I think She was loving Buck like nothing else. I mean who couldn’t?

Adapted from the novel by Jack London, it vividly brings to the screen the story of Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Canadian Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. As the newest rookie on a mail delivery dog sled team--and later its leader--Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime, ultimately finding his true place in the world and becoming his own master. As a live-action/animation hybrid, THE CALL OF THE WILD visual effects and animation technology in order to bring the animals in the film to life. THE CALL OF THE WILD is directed by Chris Sanders and stars Harrison Ford, Omar Sy, Dan Stevens, Karen Gillan, Bradley Whitford, Cara Gee, Michael Horse, Jean Louisa Kelly, Colin Woodell, Adam Fergus and Abraham Benrubi. Erwin Stoff, p.g.a. and James Mangold, p.g.a. are producing with Diana Pokorny, Ryan Stafford and screenwriter Michael Green serving as executive producers.

Take a night this week and do something fun with the kiddos and maybe a movie night could be it. You can buy Call of the wild on Movies Anywhere now and have it on digital. Let me know what you think. I’m sure you will love it.

  4. I haven't yet seen The Call of the Wild movie, although I have heard that the natural scenes in it are just spectacular. Can't wait to see it and I just love the way you did it with your family. I couldn't agree more that participation/involvement of kids is key to having a great time and the way they all pitched in to make the event, would have made the time a special one.

I did like the movie but I wish they had called it "Call of the Wild: Finding a Home" or something to indicate the premise was the same but the storyline was different.
