Easy Ways for Families to Save Money

This post is sponsored by T-Mobile.

As a family of 5, we have to budget across the board. One way that really helps my family is having our cell phone plan with T-Mobile.  We did comparison shopping and they have the best deal, with some great extra perks, for what we need. It makes it easy for our family to have multiple lines and stay on a budget. Not only that, but we are able to use some of the extra funds elsewhere. Let me show you what I mean.

Feeding a family of 5 is no easy task, especially with most everyone home these days. We are talking more meals than normal plus snacks. I meal plan each week. Not only does it help me know what we are going to eat, it helps me at the grocery store too. I make fewer impulse buys as I have a course of action. Once you get the hang of it, it doesn’t take as long.

With my Samsung Galaxy S20 I keep notes for the next week as I get ideas for meals. Then when the shopping comes, I make a list of everything I need so I can just go down the shopping list. Ordering the groceries also saves on those impulse buys. I just order and pick everything up when it’s ready.

Knowing that my wireless bill from T-Mobile will be the same amount every month, because taxes and fees are included in the price, allows me to be a little looser with my budget especially when it comes to those special days and I need to bake or cook something a little more elaborate. Birthdays are a big deal in my house so when I’m able to bake a three-layer vanilla cheesecake it’s a big deal. It’s great having a little extra and not having to worry about it with a surprise extra cost on my monthly bills.

We have been so cooped up in our homes the past few months that the kids have been itching to do something, go somewhere. In a couple weeks we have a trip to a waterpark planned (one of our favorite quick and close getaways). Kids can go swimming, arcade, and whatnot. We all need those times to go and do something and with the savings from T-Mobile, we are able to do that.

For four lines, the T-Mobile Magenta plan is a lot cheaper than the other plans we looked at. Like $40 a month cheaper! And with the savings, we are able to have a good gym membership to the local Y. This way there is something for everyone in the family. Dan can do a workout, as can Myam and they can swim too. Plus, the younger 2 kids can have fun in the pool. This is a monthly expense that we probably wouldn’t have been able to with some more expensive service plans. The family needs this as not only is exercise important, but so is just getting out for our mental health.

How can I save money with T-Mobile?

I’ve talked a lot about what I can do with the savings and such but where do you really save with T-Mobile? The phone plans are amazing, and I’ll get to those details in a minute. I first want to talk about freebies. Yes, freebies. Who doesn’t love free things?

Do you have Netflix or a video-streaming service called Quibi? With T-Mobile, you get both included in your plan for the first 12 months and then after that you pick one between the two. I have seen Verizon offer Disney+ for a year and Apple Music for 6 months but it’s done after that, and AT&T offers HBO, but that’s only on their most expensive plan. I’m impressed you can keep one of the two ongoing. That alone is a savings on a monthly Netflix subscription. One that most of us buy (myself included).

Weekly Perks:
T-Mobile Tuesday is an app that gives you free stuff and discounts every Tuesday. It’s an amazing thing. You can get movie tickets, free food from places like Starbucks and Burger King, coupons, even free subscriptions to services like Pandora. Just recently I received a coupon to get 2 movie downloads (not rentals) for $5. I picked from 10 different movies. Not a bad deal at all and a savings since it would have been more than $10 if I wanted them both. This is a perk that doesn’t go away after a few months, it’s the entire time you have T-Mobile, every Tuesday is something new.

Scam protection: T-Mobile gives us free scam protection – no app required. The other guys had limitations on which devices and plans could get this.. T-Mobile’s free Scam ID and Scam Block are deployed on the network, so no special device or app is required.

Travel benefits: if/when you travel you don’t pay extra to go across the border with your phone. Just take your phone and go. No special plan required. T-Mobile Magenta includes unlimited talk and text and 5GB of data in Mexico and Canada, and international data for overseas. And the plan includes a free hour of Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi when traveling domestically. Have you paid for the Wi-Fi on a plane? It’s expensive!

The Bottom Line – the price of the phone plans:
But even with all of this included, where you really save money is on the cost of the phone plans. When was the last time you looked at the pricing of a new wireless plan? If you compare the top three providers and look at the everyday pricing of 4 lines of T-Mobile Magenta compared to the others, you’ll see a savings on average of about $40 a month or about $442 per year. And T-Mobile Magenta plans have monthly taxes and fees included in the price, so you could actually save more when you consider that the other guys add taxes and fees on top of their stated pricing! We love that there’s no surprises when we open our bill each month.

As you can see, there are many benefits and savings available to T-Mobile customers. Between the savings I shared above and having the right plan for your family, you really can save hundreds a year.

So, how do you save money? Also, if you switched to T-Mobile what would you do with the extra savings each month? I’d love to hear!

  13. T-Mobile sounds like a great option. We used to have Verizon but paid sooo much for it. And they were charging fees wrongfully. So we shopped around and ended up with Consumer Cellular. It has been amazing, especially compared to Verizon, lol.

  15. We broke down and went out. We went to the park and then bowling. The park is open but was empty, but the bowling alley had one other pair there, so we wore masks while we bowled. It was fun, but i still felt worried. This virus is really wreaking havoc. It is however, making it easier to save money. We like T-Mobile here too.
