Lennon Bruce Fire Breather Children's book

We all need a little help sometimes dealing with our emotions especially our kiddos. It can be really hard to know what is right way to react. Kate Bartlein wrote a great book called Lennon Bruce Fire Breather that is just about this very topic.

Lennon Bruce is a young boy that doesn’t quit have his emotions under check. I mean most kiddos don’t yet. He turns into a fire breathing dragon when he gets mad. We as parents know that’s not a good thing. He finds out that’s not a good thing either. With the help of his very wise mom he learns some very good techniques to help him gain better control of his emotions.

Seriously, as an adult for myself alone I think this book is amazing and I learned something let alone for kids. I think almost every parent needs this and teachers too. Fallon read this and thought it was really cool with the illustration. She understood it right away and knew what was going on and even had to read it to her dragon plush. We talked about Lennon and his sister and what he could have done better. There are so many great teaching moments.

Kate also sent Fallon two really fun activities to make as well. I wanted to share how to make them in case you wanted to with your little one. They are both super easy.

Fire breathing dragon

Materials:

Toilet paper roll

Cut strips of orange, yellow and red tissue paper

Markers

Glitter (optional)

Sticker eyes (optional)

Glue stick

Directions

Glue the paper tightly around the inside. You should still be able to blow though it and be able to wiggle slightly. Once that’s done you can decorate the outside with a marker, glitter the stickers or anything else you want.

Pinwheel

Materials

Unsharpened pencil

Pushpin

2 colored square pieces of paper

Directions

Lay the two sheets on top of each other. Using a pencil draw a line from the 4 corners towards the middle stopping 1-2 inches from the center. Cut both pieces on the line. Fold alternating corners to the center and secure with the pushpin. Once you have the shape of the pinwheel secured, push the pin through the eraser on the pencil. Experiment with tightening/loosening the until it spins the desired speed.

We had so much fun making these crafts. I bet your kiddos will have a blast making them as well.

I highly recommend checking out Lennon Bruce Fire Breather on Amazon today. The book makes for a great Christmas gift or birthday present. Let me know what you think of it.

Kate Bartlein really proves that she has been working with children for over a decade. She has been working behavior therapist and assistive technology specialist. She believes that big imaginations can change the world and it really shows in this book. I can’t wait to see what she writes with her next book.

  20. Books that offer kids an interactive component are terrific. I find that with kids cooped up at home, more interactive activities are important.
