Heifer International helps families around the world earn a living

Even though 2020 has been so hard it has made us realize how much we need to give to each other. Over the years I have noticed companies giving back and I love it, you know I do, but something about 2020 and a rise in companies. Maybe I’m just more aware of it this year and noticing it more, I don’t know but there really seems to be an increase. Heifer International is one of those companies that care so much about the people. They help families in over 21 countries get livestock and other animals that help support their families. Their entire model is supporting people. Check below on how you can help. Keep in mind that giving in someone’s name is a great Christmas gift.

Heifer International has invested in the farmers, they not only want to help give them training but also help them be successful. If the farmer is successful their village is more successful as well. this helps with Nutritious food. Shelter. Clean water, access to education and very important health care. Helping those who are hungry is something that i’m very passionate about and Heifer is a great organization for those in need.

There are many ways to give to Heifer, one is by giving an animal which I will touch on in a bit, and the other is through actual merchandise. That they sell. A wide variety of items from plushes to bowls to beautiful necklaces.

 

One thing I really love is that when you are looking at these products, they also tell you about the people that are making them. You have a face behind a product, and you know where your money is going. Let’s take these Confetti Farm animal ornaments for example. They are beyond cute and you can tell they are very well made. You can choose from a cow, llama, goat, rooster, sheep or a pig.

 

Who makes these beautiful creations? That would be Edwin Hasacca Condori. In the 80’s his dad and four brothers escaped Lima. He works side by side with his dad and also his wife creating things out of clay.

As promised my Garam Masala Apple Walnut Crisp recipe:

 

 

Ingredients

 

Filling

About 6 apples peeled and sliced (or you can dice them too)

½ teaspoon cinnamon

½ teaspoon garam masala

2 tablespoon lemon juice

Pinch of salt

 

 

Crumble

 

½ butter softened

1 ½ cups almond flour

¼ cup maple syrup

¼ teaspoon garam masala

Pinch of salt

1 cup (or more) walnuts (you can course chop them if you want)

 

Directions

 

Preheat oven to 350F

Grease baking dish. You can use a pie dish or a cast iron pan as well

In a medium bowl toss the apple slices with lemon juice, garam masala, and a pinch of salt and set aside

In another bowl, mix the crumble topping. Mash the butter with almond flour, maple syrup, garam masala, and salt. Once combined stir in walnuts.

Pour on top of the apples

Bake for 35 minutes or until the apples are soft and the crumble is golden brown on top
