How T-Mobile Helps Students Across the Country with Free Internet and Free Mobile Hotspots

I don’t know about you, but this last school year was rough. Kids were home 24/7, we became their teachers, and it just seemed to last forever.

Towards the end of the school year, my kids did go back to their in-person classroom. However, not everyone had that luxury and still may be looking at starting this next school year online.

I’m not sure if you remember, but last year I talked about an amazing T-Mobile program called Project 10Million, an unprecedented $10.7B initiative aimed at delivering Internet connectivity to millions of underserved student households at no cost to them over the next five years. I’m so happy to report that T-Mobile is continuing that momentum to help millions of eligible families across the country.

My family and I are blessed to have such fast and reliable connectivity, which was a big deal when we had to teach from home. Every family deserves that. I think it’s incredible that T-Mobile has stepped up once again! The need for equal and fair access to the internet is crucial as many are still dealing with the effects of the pandemic and T-Mobile has the goal of helping every unconnected student in the U.S. get access to the Internet connectivity they need to learn.

The CEO of T-Mobile, Mike Sievert, said “Education is the great leveler, but without internet access, kids will be left behind.”

This is so true. There are so many children last year who were forced to learn from home but didn’t have the right equipment or Internet connectivity.

For many, hybrid learning has become the new norm, and that’s why Project 10Million is offering more low cost data options, including unlimited, for school districts to pass on to student households at no cost to them! Each eligible student can still get the 100GB/year plan for FREE OR their school district can apply for their 100GB per month plan—which has about 3x the data T-Mobile saw used by students at the start of the pandemic. And they’re offering schools a low-cost unlimited option, too

We all know that we don’t just use the internet for homework. We use it in our daily lives to communicate with family and friends. We even use it to attend doctor appointments virtually. These are the kinds of things that help families thrive.

According to Mike Katz, executive vice president of T-Mobile Business Group, “With Project 10Million this country is coming closer than ever before to closing the digital divide. We CANNOT and WILL NOT allow lack of connectivity to divide us. Because it’s a simple fact: Access to the internet means access to opportunity. And we believe that EVERY SINGLE STUDENT in America deserves that opportunity.”

I couldn’t agree more with this statement. Given an opportunity, children will thrive, and we can help!

Education was a major platform for T-Mobile even before their merger with Sprint, and with their tremendous network capacity, the Un-carrier has helped connect over 3 million students across the country, including Project 10Million students, since the start of last year!

If you are a family in need or know one in need of internet service, please don’t wait. Sign up for Project 10Million now. Students who are enrolled in the National School Lunch Program qualify. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a current T-Mobile customer to receive the help (that’s how committed they are)!

But there are so many reasons to join the Un-carrier lately, including exciting offers happening as I write this.

And Metro by T-Mobile also has some deals that can really help families.  Switch and upgrade to Metro by T-Mobile for just $25/month with trade in for one line of unlimited talk, text and high-speed smartphone data, including unlimited 5G on T-Mobile's award-winning 5G network at no extra cost. Plus, you can get a free 5G phone!

  1. There have been a few of the internet companies in our area with similar programs. It's such a great option for those who need it. I'm thankful to live in Texas in a district that has fought when needed for our student's education. My boys were on campus all of last school year and have been this school year as well.

With the current condition where kids are strongly encouraged to stay at home due to the pandemic, a reliable and stable internet connection is important to help them get through their online classes..
