Now onto The Nurse Mommy GIVEAWAY!

I received an awesome jar of Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil a couple months back to review for you all. Instead of giving you a list of the hundreds of reasons why it's great for you and interesting uses for it, I wanted a different angle. We know it's good for us, we know there are TONS of uses for it, we know all of this. Therefore, I've been sitting on this jar of coconut oil for a quite a while trying to come up with a different angle.

Tropical Traditions is America’s source for coconut oil. Their Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is hand crafted in small batches by family producers, and it is the highest quality coconut oil they offer. Their Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is hand crafted in small batches by family producers, and it is the highest quality coconut oil they offer. You can read more about how virgin coconut oil is different from other coconut oils on their website: What is Virgin Coconut Oil?

Now, I do want to share one thing I DID learn that coconut oil was NOT good for. SUNBURN. My sister visited in March, and of course we did some hiking. Well as she is extremely stubborn, she refused sunblock; whereas,  I wear SPF whatever the highest we have and am perfectly content with my pasty legs. Well, we get home and realizes she looks like a slice of burnt toast. Insistently, she says, "I'll be perfectly tan tomorrow, no worries."

Stubbornly, immediately, stupidly. she put coconut oil on her sunburn, completely not thinking like the paramedic she is. OIL or fat of ANY kind is ABSOLUTELY not good for any kind of burn. It seals in the heat and can make it go from bad to worse, within a few hours. She was water blistered and then her burn peeled everywhere the next day. So, then, we put some breast milk on it, and THAT fixed her little issue and quickly reversed the blistering- all within a few hours. So lesson? Use Sunblock to prevent sunburn and if you do get burned, use breastmilk instead of coconut oil for your home remedy. It'll save a little pain. Just sayin'.

But I digress and back to the topic at hand. I have been using the Tropical Traditions oil in some higher heat cooking, in place of olive oil and safflower oil. But then I had a thought... People drink coconut oil by the cup, why not use it IN a recipe, not just as a cooking oil, but also to add a little bit of coconut-y flav-ah.

I've used it as an adjunct of flavor in three dishes, so far, and will be sharing my favorite recipe with you all today. Here is the a new recipe from Michelle on her new blog Ramlings of Mama.

Tropical Traditions also carries other varieties of affordable high quality coconut oil. Visit their website to check on current sales, to learn about the many uses of coconut oil, and to read about all the advantages of buying coconut oil online. Since the FDA does not want us to discuss the health benefits of coconut oil on a page where it is being sold or given away, here is the best website to read about the health benefits of coconut oil.
