Maple Syrup and Raw Honey Review and Giveaway

In my house we love eating breakfast foods, and often have breakfast for dinner. I was told about Mohawk Valley Trading Company and their awesome products, and had to try them out for myself. I was so happy when they said they would send me 2 jars of honey and a jar of maple syrup.
One awesome fact about honey, it doesn’t go bad so no worrying about wasting any. Just food for thought (lame pun intended)

I was thinking about what I wanted to test these 3 products on and pancakes came to mind. I wasn’t in the mood for eggs or sausage so instead I made pancakes and also strawberry and raspberry crepes. I told my mom I was cooking to test them out and she came right over. Note, that we didn’t test the honey or syrup on the crepes; I just added that to the meal.

From Mohawk Valley Trading Company: “If you are planning to use honey for its health-benefits, it must be raw honey. Heating honey (pasteurization) destroys the all of the pollen, enzymes, propolis, vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants, and aromatics. The rawest honey available is comb honey  (sections of the hexagonal-shaped beeswax cells of the honeycomb that contain raw honey that have been cut from the wooden frames of a beehive), however most people prefer bottled raw honey.”

I love that right on the glass jar it says “This honey has not been heated, filtered, blended or processed. All of the pollen, enzymes, propolis, vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants, minerals and aromatics are in the same condition as they were in the hive. If this honey has crystallized, place the jar in warm water to soften. Do not feed honey to infants under one year old.

Please remember to put it in warm water to soften instead of using a microwave. The first honey we tried was the Raw GoldenrodHoney. It was a little thick, so I warmed it up a little to make it easier to spread. I will be honest; it wasn’t what I was used to. I am used to the honey from the store, and that has a ton of additives in it. After a few more bites I really liked it. It had a different taste but was good.

The second jar we received was their Raw TulipPoplar- Black Locust Honey.  It’s darker than the Goldenrod and to be a little more bitter, but still good. It’s going to take me a little longer to get used to this one. Out of the two I tried, I really like the Goldenrod. We will for sure be enjoying the both again soon. Price wise, they are more than honey you find in the store, but these are so much better for you than those. They go for $10 for a one pound jar.

I love maple syrup; a family friend would make some and give us a few jars every year. It was such a treat. I really was looking forward to trying their Maple Syrup.

“Mohawk Valley Trading Company maple syrup comes in glass bottles and is made primarily from sugar maple sap, which is preferred for maple syrup production because it has an average sugar content of two percent. Sap from other maple species is usually lower in sugar content, and about twice as much is needed to produce the same amount of finished syrup. Maplesugar is made from the controlled crystallization of maple syrup and takes several forms. Granulated maple sugar looks like brown sugar with variable grain size. It is easy to store in air tight jars and it will not mold or separate.”

I really love the fact that Mohawk’s syrup is pure, with no additives. You know exactly what you are getting. I have to say it was so good. One of the best syrups I have had in a long time. It was sweet without being overly sweet. You can buy it in two different sizes 16oz which is $15 and 32oz which is $30. Yes it seems like a lot but the quality is amazing and so worth it.
