Keep Lice away with Fairy Tales Rosemary Repel

Let’s talk about a subject that so many fear and has so much stigma attached to it. Lice, yes I said lice. Those creepy crawling bugs that give you the heebie jeebies. I have an almost 13 year old and a 3 year old. I made it almost 13 years without having to deal with these things, that recently changed when my 3 year old came home with lice!

Yes, they are bugs, yes they are yucky. With that said, just because you or your children get them doesn’t mean you are unclean, messy, don’t take care of yourself, kids or your home. So much stigma is attached to it. We experienced it first hand and it wasn’t really fair to my child or to our family.

About a month or so into dealing with lice and trying so many methods I got my hands on the lice prevention line from Fairy Tales. It has been amazing to say the least! Before I get into the details on how I treated them, I want to talk about what they really are.
Lice:

lice
What: small, six legged insects; size of a sesame seed
Color: grayish, whitish brown
Found: directly on the scalp
Feed: need human blood to survive
Lifecycle: can live 30 days on scalp
Not dangerous: bothersome but don't spread disease
Symptoms: itching, irritation, small red bumps

Nits

What: small, oval sacs; size of a pin point
Color: yellow, tan or brown dots
Found: on the hair shaft about 1/4 – 1/2 inch from the scalp
Hot spots: behind the ears, nape of the neck and part lines
Lifecycle: newly hatched nymphs migrate to the scalp to feed
Timeline: 9-10 days from hatching they begin to lay their own egg

To get lice you need head to head contact, or sharing things that have been on the head of someone with lice like hats, clothes, brushes etc. They can also live up to 36 hours off the scalp. They don’t carry diseases and they can’t be transferred to pets (yay for those with fur babies).

Hello curly hair of a toddler
I have talked to my friends about it so much because I was desperate to get rid of these things. I didn’t like the idea of all the chemicals I was putting on my 3 year old’s scalp. I tried the normal over the counter shampoos, my own mixture of coconut oils and essential oils. Talked to others that tried lotions and blow dryers, mayo (didn’t try that), rx and lastly the Fairy Tales line. Once I got them gone, then I needed to keep them gone. The last thing I wanted was to see another one of those bugs crawling in my daughter's hair (yuck).

Fairy Tales has a great line called Rosemary Repel. It helps keep the lice away without using harsh chemicals, pesticides, toxins, parabens, sulfates and even without dairy, gluten or nuts (for those with allergies). The line consists of:

  • Rosemary Repel Creme Conditioner
  • Rosemary Repel Conditioning Spray (I love for my daughter’s curly hair)
  • Rosemary Repel Hair Spray
  • Rosemary Repel Styling Gel

Fallon hates bath time still and the worst part is washing her hair. So, you can imagine having to treat her over and over again for well over a month. We were so lucky that she didn’t mind the Rosemary shampoo or the conditioner when rinsing it out, because it usually involves crying and screaming.

It’s been a few weeks since our last full treatment and we have been good to go but we still use the Rosemary products to make sure it stays that way. The hair spray and gel also help keep them from attaching (yay for needing lots of product in the hair).

Even if your child doesn’t have lice now, it’s great to have a product or two on hand for the just incase. That way you aren’t panicking and running to the store. You can find Fairy Tales at Ulta, CVS, Bed, Bath & Beyond and so many other stores.

  3. I just went through this a few months ago with both of my daughters too. Luckily I remembered how to deal with it since I had them as a child too. What I love about this line is that there a product for everything that they would normally put in their hair-shampoo, hair spray etc. I love the concept of doing anything you can to prevent them!

  4. We went through it off and on for about a year with dd before she was in school. We found another brand of repelling shampoo and it has worked for us for around 4 years! I would love a conditioner though - they don't have one! I love that Fairy Tales is all natural (a must for dd's skin).

  22. Lice is the worst. Especially on long, thick or curly hair. I'm with you on the chemicals used to get rid of them. They're super harsh. I wish I had found this line when my son had it. His hair is so long that it took 3 times.

  25. I like that this line uses natural ingredients to repel the lice in the first place and never bring them into the home. I have read a few articles about something called Super Lice that are resistant to pesticides in the lice kits, so it would be nice to have something that will help avoid having to deal with it at all!
