Just like at home while at Extended Stay America

Before I begin, I want to say a big thank you to ExtendedStay America in hosting my husband and myself at their hotel.

Have you ever stayed at an extended stay type hotel? Usually people stay at these when they will be at a place longer than a few nights. They have kitchenettes so that you can store food and cook. Most hotels have just a little mini fridge. Extended stay hotels have full size so you can put more than just one take out container in there.

Extended Stay America definitely has you in mind when they built the hotel. There are about 630 locations around the US, which means over 69,000 rooms. Each room has a kitchen with stove, full size fridge, and microwave. In the mornings if you don’t want to cook, you can grab a muffin or fruit from their on the go breakfast in the lobby. Free Wifi is also included. If you need a really high speed you can purchase that for just a few dollars.
Our room was a King suite so we had a king size bed. Even though the room was small (just hotel small, not super small), it still had everything we needed for space for a 3 night stay. We were at the Huntington Beach, CA location which is a suburb of LA. It’s quiet, easy to find yet very close to everything we wanted. Not to mention only about 15 mins from the actual beach.

The staff was super nice and called our room to make sure we found it ok and didn’t need anything else. I love when they call right away as it shows me great customer service.
With regular hotels you have daily maid service, you don’t have that with Extended Stay America, but you don’t really need it if you only stay a few days. You can get new towels anytime you need it and they have a laundry area onsite to wash your clothes if you need. If something gets dirty that you need help cleaning, you can call the desk and they will be more than happy to send someone to assist. Not having that daily maid service saves you money as it makes the stay more affordable.

A few things to know when it comes to cooking. ExtendedStay America doesn’t keep the cooking utensils in the rooms. They don’t want them getting dusty and not ready for use in case a room isn’t used for a day or two. All you have to do is call down to the desk and tell them what you need and they will bring it to you or you can do down and get it. They have basic items like pots, pans, spatula, cutting board, place settings, colanders and more. For safety sake, the do not have sharp knives. They do have steak knives, but not really sharp that you might normally use. Even though it’s a steak knife, you can still get by and cut quite a bit of things with them.

We didn’t really cook much on Thursday and Friday, just mainly used the microwave to heat things up since we were out and about. Saturday we decided to make a bigger meal that involved real cooking. Since we were partially on the beach I decided to make a Fish Taco with a Mango Salsa. One the side we had sweet corn and edamame. We found a close grocery store to get all the ingredients we needed and a great selection of fish. My husband isn’t a big salmon fan so I got some Haddock.

From start to finish, the meal took maybe 20 minutes. I have linked the recipe for the Fish Taco and Mango Salsa. My husband and I loved it, and hope you try it as well.

Cooking in the room was different for me. I haven’t done it before, but it was fun and I think turned out well. I don’t think it would have been any different than if we had cooked it in our own home.
