Meal Delivery Service from Home Chef

Coming up with a new meal idea for a family can be a daunting task sometimes. Recently Home Chef sent my family and I a couple of meals. Not only did I not have to come up with a meal idea, but I didn’t have to shop for the ingredients either (huge time saver).

The setup is so easy:
  • Step 1: enter in your email and zip code (to make sure they can deliver to you).
  • Step 2:  Select which type of food you like (meat, seafood, veggies).
  • Step 3: Select which foods you want to avoid (nuts, dairy, red meat, pork etc)
  • Step 4: You can let them know if you need low- calorie or low-carb
  • Step 5: Select how many meals you want each week (between 2 and 6)
  • Step 6: Select how many people you are cooking for (2,4 or 6)
  • Step 7: Select which day you want everything delivered (Wednesday, Thursday or Friday)
  • Step 8: Fill in shipping address
  • Step 9: Pay

It may seem like a lot of steps, but really it only takes a few minutes and step 2-6 are on one page. They don’t make you go to a new page for each thing.

Our shipment was delivered with a foam box and everything wrapped up with dry ice. Each meal was together (except for the meat, that was in its own bag double bagged). When it came time to prepare the meals, I didn’t have to dig through a box of ingredients. Everything was together, and also pre measured.
Home chef also sends a binder with a photo of the full meal and then on the back are step by step instructions.

Most of their meals are meant to take only about 30-40 minutes. Both of ours were around a half hour. If I were to cook this without them helping with prep work, it would take me forever. Having everything ready for me to just throw together and cook is not only a time saver, but also a meal saver. I probably would never have thought of making the Apple Chutney on my own. It’s really good and actually really easy.

The first meal was Seared Flat Iron and Roasted Sweet Potatoes with toasted walnuts, blue cheese, arugula and balsamic glaze. While the second meal was Caramelized Apple Chutney Pork Chop with green beans almondine. With both receipes there were only a few things that I needed to provide (other than pots and pans). Like salt, pepper, and olive oil. We keep those on hand all the time, so it’s not a big deal.

Everyone in my family loves green beans, so having really fresh beans was a bonus. Both my kids were asking for seconds on them as well as the sweet potato fries (well done Home Chef).

Having Home Chef deliver the meals can get a little pricey, but is worth the price, in my opinion. This is such a great service when planning a nice meal and saves so much time from shopping. Check out their site and you can see what meals are coming up in the next few weeks.
