Back to School Snacks

Now that school is well underway, and routines are set, I wanted to share a few different options for snacks for both after school, or school lunch, or really, whenever. For my family protein is a huge part of our diets, and our favorite snack is popcorn. So, these three options are big in our house.

I will be upfront and honest, I love peanut butter, it’s amazing. However, I do have family members who are allergic to nuts. So, I like to keep something on hand for when they visit, that they have options. Sneaky Chef is that option. It’s a no-nut butter. This means, that it’s sweet and "nutty" tasting from golden peas, but without a trace of peanuts, tree nuts, seeds, or soy. Making this a great option for those with nut allergies or people who don’t really like nuts.

Sneaky Chef has a few options for you. You can buy their classic in a jar or in single serve cups (perfect for on the go, or packed lunches). The other flavor is chocolate, yes you heard that right, chocolate. I haven’t seen the chocolate in the single serve cups, but I’m sure it will be soon, and I can’t wait for that.
The flavor is a little different because, well, it’s not nuts. It’s has a sweeter taste to it. I tested it out with apple slices and it was great, but my favorite was when I added it with pretzels. Then I got the salty and sweet all in one bite, and it was great.
Popcorn is one of the biggest “snack of choice” in my house. We have our favorite brands and flavors, but love trying new ones, so I definitely said yes to Spiced & Infused. For me, I love trying new flavors of things. When it’s included in one of our favorite snacks, then it’s even better.

Looking at Spiced & Infused their flavors remind me of chips, with ones like:
  • Asain Barbecue
  • Bombay Seasoning
  • Chipotle Taco
  • French Herb

2.2 cups, yes CUPS of the Bombay Seasoning is only 113 calories. That’s a huge portion and only a few calories. Something like this we can eat all the time without all the guilt that some treats give us.
Other health benefits include:
  • Certified Non-GMO, Gluten-Free, Vegan, and Whole Grain
  • No Artificial Flavors or Colors
  • Sugar-Free
  • No Preservatives or Cholesterol
  • Good Source of Fiber
  • 0g Trans Fat Per Serving
  • Non-irradiated Spices

I highly recommend checking their site out and see which stores near you carry it. Some Whole Foods, 7 Eleven, and specialty stores.
The last product I wanted to talk about is protein powder. Most think of this protein powder for weight loss. It can be use as that, and it can be used for extra nutrition. My 13 year old has a thing about breakfasts lately. She doesn’t want to sit down and eat a full meal. One thing she will do is drink a shake. So, I do 2 scoops of the original powder, with 16 oz milk (so it’s not as thick, otherwise use 8oz), shake it up and she is good to go.

It may not seem like a lot, but she’s getting a ton of protein, and a lot of her vitamins, from just one drink. If you have a lot of allergies, always be careful, but Protein Plus has the following features:
  • GMO Free
  • No artificial colors
  • No artificial flavors
  • No artificial sweetners
  • No soy protein
  • No whey protein

Besides the original (which tastes amazing) they also have a few other flavors.
  • Banana
  • Honey
  • Chocolate (which I want to try next!)

Take a look at their site, which you can buy straight from them, or if you are near a Publix, they are now selling it as well.
