Most people who
have a flat screen TV have it mounted, I know I have a few up in my house. When
that happens you get cords hanging down the wall. In the past I have bought
products to “hide” them but all it did was group them together as you still saw
them. Recently I was sent a kit from Best Buy to try out. It’s a Legrand in-Wall TV Power Kit.
I will admit it
was a little intimidating when I first saw it, but then I watched a video on
the step by step and was a little more ok with it. It also helped that my
amazing boyfriend was available to help me (being disabled, I probably wouldn’t
have been able to do it with my issues). This works with any TV as the size
doesn’t matter. You also don’t need an electrician as you aren’t splitting
wires or anything.
BEFORE! |
Before you get
started my tip is to buy a drywall saw, which you can get at pretty much any
hardware store.
Step one
Find the stud
and go away from there. Where you place the box you want to have hidden behind
the TV. Take the cut out from the kit and place level on the wall and trace it.
Then using your drywall saw, cut along the outline and remove the drywall.

Seep two
Find the
nearest outlet (should be within the same stud area of your other cut out.)
Measure how far that is up from the floor and add ¼ of an inch. Then take your
green or Grey small frame and place with the wings out. Make sure it’s level
and trace around the inside part of the outer frame. Like you did before, cut it out and remove the drywall.
Step three
Run your AV
cables through the top hole and into the bottom hole. Them take the recessed box
(the large box with big cord) and straighten out the cord. Feed the cord from
the top to the bottom hole just like the AV cables. Then feed the AV cables
through the side opening in the box. Once all the cords are through, put the
recessed box into the wall and secure by tightening the screws with a
screwdriver (this will tighten the wings securing it to the wall).
Step Four
At the bottom
pull all the cords through the small green or gray frame, and place the frame
into the wall (with the wing going into the wall). Just like with the recessed
box, take your screwdriver and tighten the wings securing them to the wall.
Step Five
Place the AV
cables through the top of the power inlet and the power connector in the bottom.
Take the back cover and snap it over the back. Take two of the provided screws
and put in the holes and tighten. Then attach to the green or gray frame with
the other two screws until tight. Feed
the AV cables through the faceplate and place over the outlet and tighten the
small screws.
Step 6
Attach the
power cable and plug in along with all the cords to the TV and other devices.
This is also where you would plug the TV into the outlet at the top recessed
box.
All done, and
enjoy your cord free wall.
If you have
anyone on your Christmas list that may love this, or yourself, I recommend heading
over to Best Buy to check it out the Legrand in-Wall TV power Kit. I know I will be buying one for my other
rooms.
