Our Children are our Future with TMobile Changemaker Challenge

This post is sponsored by T-Mobile.

As the iconic Whitney Houston song goes “I believe the children are our future,

teach them well and let them lead the way.”  I fully believe that we need to nurture our children as they are the next generation to lead our world. It’s so fantastic when companies host programs that bring out the best in today’s youth. I’m excited so T-Mobile and Ashoka are co-leading the fourth Changemaker Challenge! Read below to learn about this year's challenge and how your child could be the winner of $15,000 to fund their vision.

My kids LOVE to create things, especially the 13-year-old. He wants to be an engineer when he gets older so encouraging him with projects like this is perfect for him. I feel that if we don’t encourage their dreams and hobbies they can’t hone in on what they were meant to do in life.

I’m constantly getting toys and products that enhance their learning. Fallon is only 9 and just starting to get into more hobbies. I think it’s amazing! I can totally see Canon entering a challenge like this in a couple of years. Mya just turned 19 so she is out of the running, BUT she has a 1-year-old so who knows what he will become. If you are looking for ideas for younger kids, start with something as simple as Legos as they can build and use their imagination and really create some awesome things with them.

It’s hard to believe that T-Mobile and Ashoka are going into the 4th year of the Changemaker Challenge. I think this year is going to be even better than last year, although last year was phenomenal.

As always,  T-Mobile and Ashoka want bold ideas. At the same time, these ideas must align with three overarching corporate social responsibility focus areas: driving digital empowerment, putting equity in action, and mobilizing for a thriving planet. This may sound tough but I know our youth can do it.

Until March 31st, youth ages 13 to 18 (located in the US and Puerto Rico) can enter the Changemaker Challenge by going to the Contest Website. Then in May, 5 teams from each of the 3 categories (15 total teams) will be chosen and receive $5,000 in seed funding.

It doesn’t stop there! Those 15 teams will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to T-Mobile's headquarters in Bellevue, Wash., and later in 2022 (pending CDC recommendations) for the Changemaker Lab. From there, the teams will receive mentorship and guidance from T-Mobile employees and executives, skills training from Ashoka, and other networking opportunities.

Out of those 15 teams, only 3 teams (one from each category) will receive another $5,000 and the ability to pitch their projects to T-Mobile senior leaders and the T-Mobile Foundation. Out of those 3, one grand prize winner will be chosen and will receive ANOTHER $5,000 in funding (for a total of $15,000), plus additional hands-on support and counsel from their T-Mobile mentors to supercharge their project! Can you imagine your child winning this and making dreams come true? Did you know that the 2019 finalist was selected as a TIME2020 Kid of the Year Finalist?

If you know any other teens that would fit this (besides your own who you already plan on encouraging of course) please give them support and encourage them also to go and apply. You never know how much confidence it could give them, and who knows, they could win!
