T-Mobile is Helping Millions Obtain Internet Access

Let me set the scene… Sunday afternoon and my kids are hard at work doing their homework. They are researching all the info for their papers, practicing math when all of a sudden, the internet cuts out. Insert panic right? I’m sure this has happened to most of us at some point. We reset the router and modem and do whatever we can to get it back up and running…. Imagine if you didn’t have access to the internet at all. What would your kids do for their homework? There are still families out there who don’t have access to the internet. More than we can imagine. My amazing friends over at T-Mobile are doing everything they can to change that through Project 10 Million

While my kids aren’t doing all their schooling online anymore, they still need access to the internet for homework and my daughter does have her piano lessons virtually in the summertime.

Fallon is entering the 6th grade this fall and will get a Chromebook along with her books. She will be expected to bring it home and do homework on it and of course, take it back to school daily. Thankfully we don’t have to worry about internet coverage at my house, so our family can use their devices, but some families don’t have that same access.

Here Fallon is proving to her teacher she has the music memorized.

You may be asking what T-Mobile has to do with getting families internet… For the past few years, they have had an amazing initiative called Project 10Million. This is a program that was started to get students across the nation access to the internet, and as the pandemic hit it only became more important since so many families were left in the dark when it came to education.

I recently read a story about tech expert Damien Dimeno, who has helped over 8,000 kids in the Union and Middlesex counties of New Jersey obtain hotspots and reliable internet. 8,000 just in that area! That number is just staggering to me and really shows how in need people are. At the close of 2022, T-Mobile had already provided 4.8 billion in services and connected more than 5.3 million students across the U.S. through Project 10Million and its other education initiatives, and they aren’t stopping. They are in it for the long haul.

With this type of help, T-Mobile is continuing to close the digital divide and make the internet accessible to students and families who need it most.

I’m thinking about my kids and their internet usage. Yes, they watch movies and play games but they also use their tablets for educational things. For example, my 2-year-old grandson who is learning how to talk watches shows like “Ms Rachel” to learn how to say letter sounds in a new way. These are resources that parents can use to teach their kids. Computers, phones, and tablets are not just about TikTok and Netflix, they can actually learn on them.

It truly is an honor to work with a company like T-Mobile who is helping amazing people like Damien to get students, schools and families internet across the country so there is a level playing field and everyone can learn to the best of their ability.

Dr. Kiesha King is an educational leader at T-Mobile and she had some great things to say about Project 10 Million. “We knew that schools needed more than just the hardware,” she explains. “Yes, we have hotspots available that we want to put in the hands of your students, but we know that administrators need help with staging, kitting, labeling, asset tagging, distribution, etc. We know that they need implementation support and folks from the education world like me who can sit beside you and plan out what this can look like over time.” Having it put like that really does show how big of an impact this can have on any given student.

If you are a family in need or know of one please send them over to this valuable program to see if they can get help check out how you can sign up. And don’t forget about schools. Send this to the teachers and or school admins. You never know who needs it.
